Here is a fascinating and thought provoking video on the eightieth anniversary of Black Thursday, and the people and events that led to it.

Breathtaking.
I suspect the reason there have been no responses to your post is because posters are whispering, "Oh $hit"

Another good reason to cap stock market exposure at 50%.
Excellent documentary mathu1968, thanks!

| I watched the video. Very interesting. I have no doubt that the markets are still manipulated now like they were back then, but not nearly as much. |

I am not so optimistic about that. I assume all markets are "managed" (we prefer that term in my household). For instance, is it truly a coincidence that today Mon Oct 26th 2009 - both equities and bonds sold off in a big way (and the US Dollar was bought)? Perhaps. Or perhaps those mega US banks who can get Fed money for basically zilch, but have not been lending (perhaps even for legitimate reasons) expressed their displeasure with pay limits (announced last Friday), wire taps to catch financial crooks, and proposed regulation being reported on today?
I have no idea. I hold. But I did wonder today.

I'm glad some of you "enjoyed" it. History isn't always enjoyable, but I like to think the better we know history the less likely we will repeat its bad features.
I didn't agree with all their analysis because I operate out of a different economic school of thought than many in the documentary do or did. But I thought there were a lot of interesting facts and figures and quite the human story raccounted in this nearly one hour documentary. When its so hard to find things worth watching at times, I thought something like this would be very thought provoking and relevant to investors.
All the best. |
