I purchased a car from an out of state dealer (just a "regular" car - nothing antique/collector). The dealer said they could line up shipping for $900 dollars or I could get it shipped myself. I have no idea if I can do better myself. (between 2 major cities - 800 miles)

I googled car shipping and I really don't want to request "free" quotes and get calls or emails.

Any idea where I can go to get some numbers? I don't want to go through the headache of DIY unless it's worth the time.

Thanks.

GG

I bought my van off of eBay and did the online quoting from 3 companies. Don't remember which one I went with, but at the time (2002) they shipped a car from Central Florida to just south of D.C. for $550 inclusive, so $900 might be in the price range depending upon the value of the car.

My advice is to get 3 quotes, compare them and make a judicious decision.

I ship cars annually. The way the system works is you post the from and to zip codes, and the time to ship. Your info goes into a central data base.
Car carrier drivers bid on moving your car.

Prices vary depending on how urgent your need is to move the car and on a particular truckers load size and his direction of travel. Usually I can move a car from central Florida to upstate New York for between $650.00 and $750.00. Timing, load size and urgency determine the price.
Regards,
Wick

Thanks a lot.

Sounds like the dealer will line up shipping for $900 and likely make a few bucks since I am guessing the actual cost to him will be a little less. It's probably not worth my time to shop this (I know that's undiehard, but life is very busy right now).

If I were you I would call a company called Reliable Car Transportation; they're truly a great company. I don't know exactly how much they could do it for, but I know their prices are some of the best in the business, and you look like you're going for price, if I may be so bold.

They have a great, friendly staff (I've dealt with them many a time) and they're more than happy to answer any questions you may have. They'll quote you right over the phone, for free, and they'll do everything in their power to get you from where you're going to where you need to go.

I'd call them at 800-530-2826 as soon as you can Smile

Good luck!

years ago when I was in grad school at U Chicago, we would get cars from NY to drive there. Most of the time they weren't cars but large trucks and once we got the front end of a tractor trailer (forgot what it was called)! All we needed was a regular driver's license. As I recall, we were paid about $100 per trip. "driveaway", I think it was called.
