Here she comes...

Per Index Universe...

Quote:
SSgA To Expand International Offerings

SSgA filed papers with the SEC to launch two new ETFs into the rapidly expanding international market. The SPDR S&P International Mid Cap ETF will be the first ETF focused on international mid-caps, while the SPDR S&P Emerging Markets Small Cap ETF follows on the launch of the WisdomTree Emerging Markets SmallCap Dividend Fund (DGS).

The Mid-Cap fund will buy companies from ex-U.S. developed markets (including Canada) with market capitalizations ranging from $2 to $5 billion. The Emerging Markets fund will buy stocks from emerging markets (excluding Korea) with market caps less than $2 billion.

Both funds could be of interest to investors. Mid-caps have been a strong performer in domestic markets, and many investors consider them to be in the “sweet spot” of corporate growth. Meanwhile, more and more investors are looking towards small-caps when they go abroad because large-cap international stocks behave more like multinationals and less like local firms. Small caps should be more closely tied to the performance of local economies, which helps them have lower correlations to the U.S. market.

Lately Wisdom Tree and SSgA have been the leaders in introduction of new ETFs for different asset classes (Intl Small, Intl Real Estate, EM Small).

Then iShares comes along.

Will Vanguard follow, or pass? Vanguard now has both sector ETFs and the Mega Cap ETFs without corresponding investor share classes. Maybe that will be their middle ground strategy so they can under-price the others on ER?

Oops, I overlooked the "dividend" part of the name. I guess availability of an emerging small value actually preceded emerging small, then.
