[below is cut/paste from MN mailing list, partially edited]
our next meeting is saturday, nov-14, from 12:00-2:00, in woodbury...
for those who have never attended a meeting, this one should be a good one for you. call it a 'boglehead open house', where we'll make sure to have breakout sessions and topics covering our history, why we meet, how we help each other, the bogleheads.org forum website, etc. also, this meeting will determine the content and format for all 2010 meetings.
agenda:
- brief intro
- review the results of the survey that 35 folks answered after our last meeting
- as a group, figure out our 2010 meeting schedule, locations, durations, etc.
- quick update on bogleheads-east side and bogleheads-west side splinter groups
- speaker for entire group: TO BE DETERMINED...
- breakout sessions for last 45 minutes or until 2:00 (each table topic moderated by someone who 'volunteers' to lead discussion)
also, if you have any ideas on speakers, let me know asap! e.g. taxes / CPA? another estate planning speaker? or discussion on a specific topic/thread from bogleheads.org forum? new book discussion?
and if you're 'on the fence' about coming and have never been to one, let me give you a final plug: we're a friendly bunch. some folks know a lot about personal investing and some know very little but want to learn more. there are no dues, no membership requirements, no commitments, and we don't sell anything. there's no pressure to talk if you just want to listen. to me, these meetings are about peers helping peers, bouncing around investment ideas, hearing unbiased advice, having some fun, getting lunch, and thinking the best way to have a worry-free retirement (or early retirement). at every meeting, there are always a handful of folks who have never been to a prior meeting, so even though our numbers are usually 15-35 people, there is always someone new w/ new ideas/questions, as well as someone who is a boglehead vet, too. ok - end of plug! _________________ next minnesota meeting 6-feb-2010 | bloomington | PM or email for details

over last 4.5 years, 13 meetings (and upcoming 14th mtg estimated to be 22 bogleheads), average attendance has been 18. median = 18.5. min = 7. max = 36.
130 on mailing list (19 others asked to be removed or emails became undeliverable). of those 130, about 50 have not attended any meetings (yet). about 50 have attended 1 or 2, and the last ~30 folks have attended 3 or more.
not that i'm into metrics, though...

Hi Jeff,
I'm not sure if I did rsvp earlier. I will be attending. This will be my first meeting and I am looking forward to being with the group, meeting people who share a similiar vision & passion about how to handle their investments. I read the recent bogleheads' guide to retirement, and since I'm alittle over into a year into early retirement, I appreciate all the wisdom and advice I can glean from others, as well as to share my experience as time goes on.

was great meeting you today, bob. glad you could make it.
meeting minutes are below:
| Quote: | hey, folks:
it's cliched to say this again, but i think we had a really great mix of new bogleheads and old vets, w/ lots of good discussions. and special thanks to tom r. for his great presentation on his chapter of the new boglehead book (link to amazon -> http://tinyurl.com/yls4n8n )
review for those not in attendance: 32 of us met and planned out the next 2 years of meetings, tom reviewed his chapter, and we had 2 breakout sessions. (and... i had to drive to radio shack (twice!) to get the correct cables for the overhead projector but that only delayed the start by a minute...)
here are the powerpoint slides, the agenda, and one picture of the meeting, all in one PDF file:

main website:

and the local chapter subforum where i post upcoming meeting notices:

MN boglehead website: (updated very INfrequently)
http://mndiehards.blogspot.com/
jolinda and others were discussing the 'easy allocator' website, from yobria. i said i'd attach the link. unfortunately, it's not online these days. i don't know why.
meeting schedule:
6-feb-2010 12:00, bloomington
1-may-2010 10:00, woodbury
7-aug-2010 12:00, bloomington
6-nov-2010 12:00, woodbury
5-feb-2011 time, location tbd
7-may-2011 "
6-aug-2011 "
5-nov-2011 "
breakout session topics, keynote speakers, and content are the lifeblood of our group. please let me know what speakers and/or topics you would want to hear about in future meetings. some ideas to get you thinking: i think jason g. (CFA and west side co-moderator) could talk about something interesting. some CPA could come to discuss tax planning, i could do a chapter review of the boglehead book. some boglehead-type who really understands annuities and life insurance could de-mystify those. or we could do a panel discussion on "creating your personal asset allocation" w/ Q&A as an entire group.
if interested in meeting w/ either the east side or west side groups in-between these main meetings, directly contact phil or jason, respectively. their emails are in the CC above. it sounds like both of those groups are doing great, and have a good core group of folks who have been getting together in more informal settings more often than main group meets. look them up!
