Ahh nice my old home town!
I might have to come down from RI to this. Probably would be nice to see my parents too.
Can i get added to any lists?
Thanks,

Less than one week to go!
Just a reminder that there is free wi-fi in the cafe, for anyone who is considering bringing their laptop.
I'm really looking forward to seeing both familiar and new faces. For those new to the forum who are on the fence about attending, Ave is a great organizer who creates a friendly and comfortable atmosphere.
Best,

For those of you who will be coming to White Plains from NYC this Sunday - we can have an early start on socializing by taking the Metro North train together. I have a group discount ticket that costs $6 per person one way.
The train leaves Grand Central at 12:48 pm and Harlem/125th Street station at 12:58 pm. We do not have to come back together but we can if we want to.
If you are interested, meet me in the first car of that train with open doors – I think that usually is the second or third car of the train. Also click on the “pm” button under this message and let’s exchange contact info in case things change.
See you there!
Eugene. |

Hey, remember at the last meeting I talked about the bank I use being at risk of failing? Well, it has happened.
This is exciting. Now I get to experience firsthand what it's like. I have enough money at another bank for any liquidity crunches or possible glitches for the customers of the acquired bank from the new bank. I do have a couple of automatic bills to be paid out of the failed bank soon, but I hope the acquisition will not turn into inquisition for me.
I'll call on Monday, and probably after only a couple of hours on hold, I'll find out if the ACH debits will go through.
As reasons go to jump on a park bench (or into an online forum) and yell "I KNEW IT!!!", this is one of the best ones! |

Eugene, I'll be interested to know how it develops. What bank was it again?

Just called them. No hold time at all. All direct deposits into and bill payments out of the account will work as normal, they say. Rates are being reviewed by the new owner bank; they will know them later this morning. The failed bank paid 1.1% on money markets, the new bank pays 0.5% to their depositors, so I think 0.5% is what I'll be getting. Time to get outa there, as I see 2.0% can be had elsewhere. I've been with that bank for at least 5 years, and I'll miss them. They had cool checks. (Yeah, that's a factor! ) |

Update: both bill pays out and direct deposits into my failed bank's account are working.
The new bank decided to give us better money market rates than they give their own customers (but not as good as the old bank was giving, of course), to limit withdrawals, I assume.
So, this has been smooth sailing all the way for me. I got relatively lucky though - this past weekend 7 banks failed, but FDIC could not find buyers for a couple of them. Customers of the banks who did not get bought out are going to receive checks from FDIC for their balances. If this happened to me, my bills and direct deposit would not have worked. Not a huge deal, but nobody needs the hassle. |
