Yes. See Local Chapter #8 on this map. Not sure how active the group is. Hopefully a Seattle Local Chapter member will chime in.

I live in Seattle (just north in Shoreline) and am new to all of this, but believe in the Boglehead way. Would be great to get together with other like-minded Bogleheads!

Was there ever a revival of the Seattle chapter, or is it defunct?

Perhaps members who live in Seattle can figure out a way to setup a meeting since there hasn't been anything setup in a long time.. if ever

It can be difficult to round up people in Seattle in the summer. But if someone wants to pick a date, time, and central location, let's give it one more try.

I'm in Seattle the second half of August and first half of September, and would make an effort to attend.

What typically happens in these chapter meetings?

Post by tuba »

Hello, first post.

Do these chapter meetings follow a typical agenda, or are they all different?

Thanks.

If one of you wants to be the new Local Chapter coordinator, PM me and let me know. I'll add your name to the Local Chapter Map and you can use this forum to communicate with the others to help get a meeting date and location set up.

It rains constantly. We also have active volcanoes, earthquakes, and lots of serial killers.

And correspondingly high depression and suicide rates. A cheerful place, we've got here. :?

Honestly, though, I like it. I'll take gentle rain over hurricanes and snowstorms, and the summers are worth it, albeit short.

The local Seattle Bogleheads chapter would only be successful with a diverse group that has active participants. As the new local chapter coordinator, I want to thank everyone for their interest. Being that August is almost gone, I was thinking of planning the first meeting for the week of 15th/22nd.

I'll plan the first agenda and have everyone help with trying to figure out what day/time and location works out the best. Feel free to PM, email or post directly on this feed.

I look forward to learning from the experience of everyone as well as advancing the Bogleheads philosophy.

Best regards,

I would assume that also although those dates do not make a lot of sense connected to the word 'week' on the September calendar.

If the meeting is between 9/20 and 10/6 I would likely attend.

The meeting is currently planned on a weeknight in Sept. I'll am thinking of 4 dates 9/14, 9/15, 9/21 and 9/22. Does anyone have an idea of a good venue in downtown Seattle?

The goal would be to narrow down to a date where the majority of people can attend. Please let me know by the end of this week if you have a preference.

Some place like University Village might be easier to deal with. Lots of parking, but should be transit accessable.

There is a very large Starbucks.

I live on the Eastside, if the Starbucks at U Village is where everyone would like to go, I am up for that. Any thoughts or recommendations for other places?

Does anyone want Bellevue or Issaquah?

I'm on the other side of Puget Sound so the closer to Seattle and the ferry dock the better for me.

Of course if the dates are not within the range I posted above it's a non-issue for me.

I live in Bellevue.

Some place near the Bellevue transit station might work too.

Depending on how many people... Anthony's Bell St. Diner at Pier 67 might work. Valet parking with the meal. Generally tip the valet $3.

I am looking forward to meeting everyone. Enjoy your Labor Day weekend!

That location works for me as well. My only concern is that that is a very busy (crowded) Starbucks. How large a group do you anticipate?

Thanks.

The two times I tried to get a meeting going no one showed up.

As for an agenda: Introductions. :-)

Hi everyone,

For this Thursday's meeting at the Starbucks University Village at 6:45 PM. (206-522-5228) right across from the Pottery Barn., I have setup an agenda

- Introduction
- Low Interest Rate Environment
- Recommendations to Make the Local Chapter a Success
- Better places to meet for Future Meetings
- Topics for Future Meetings

I appreciate everyone's patience as we get over any growing pains of a new group. I have also created a new Seattle Area Boglehead Yahoo Group. Please join so I will be able to send out automated reminder of future meetings to the group members.

Hi Mark,

As far as I know, we met once in Seattle. Personally I learned a lot. There were some great ideas discussed and it seemed like everyone had their financial plans in order.

chrischris,

Take a look at the dates on most of the posts in this thread and you'll see that the planned meeting was last fall. The thread was just recently revived by Mark.

Ill be happy to host another meeting if we want to develop an agenda to discuss. Last one went pretty well

I was thinking the following

Index products/providers that everyone is using
ETFs vs mutual fund structure
Rebalancing
Taking advantages of tax deferal/advantaged accounts

Let me know and we can figure out a date/time. Thanks you!

I'm definitely interested. For those of us with kids, we're getting into spring break season over the next couple of weeks. So how about sometime in mid-April? It would be cool to get a Seattle group going!
