This is the Best Thing CNBC has Ever Aired - Icahn v. Ackman
This is the Best Thing CNBC has Ever Aired - Icahn v. Ackman
I heard some rumblings about this but was still shocked that two multi-billionaire adults could act like this on TV. Much better than reality TV with fake fights. This is some serious bad blood. Unbelievable.

Does anyone know the full context for this? Beyond my couple of blue chips, I haven't really been paying attention to market news.

Their cat fight goes back 10 years to a deal gone bad, but what triggered recently is Ackman's very public short on Herbalife. That whole position is hedge fund porn in that people like Ackman are vocal on one side and Dan Loeb on the other. Icahn may be on the other side as well. This is entertainment, not serious investing information for the retail investor.science4sail wrote:Does anyone know the full context for this? I happened to flip on CNBC right when this was going on. Actually stopped what I was doing and sat down and watched/listened. Icahn's profanity was to the point that I wasn't sure that he realized he was on live TV. The host had to remind him a couple of times. Talk about bad blood. What idiots these guys are! No class whatsoever, particularly Icahn. Money sure doesn't equal class.
This time, like all times, is the best of times if we but know what to do with it.

I prefer this Icahn.

Irving Kahn: 105-Year-Old Investor’s Top Positions in Q2
PaulIrving Kahn, along with his brothers Alan and Thomas, founded Kahn Brothers & Company Inc. in 1978. At 105 years of age, Kahn still goes to the office every day to be involved in the management of the firm’s $800 million in assets. As a follower of Ben Graham, he evaluates stocks from the bottom up, buying undervalued stocks that are typically also out of favor.
...and then Buffy staked Edward. The end.

Yup. Icahn was particularly crass. Why not have civil discussions or just agree to disagree and move on?Slapshot wrote:I happened to flip on CNBC right when this was going on. Funny stuff, I'm glad we don't get as excited about a single stock like others.

I happened to have it on as well. Two guys acting like pre-teeners calling each other liars on live TV ... funny stuff except for Icahn showing what a street crude guy he is.
Re: This is the Best Thing CNBC has Ever Aired - Icahn v. Ac
Did the swears actually make it through on live tv? I heard the replay but they were bleeped.
Re: This is the Best Thing CNBC has Ever Aired - Icahn v. Ac
They sure did. Twice from what I recall. Both referenced male cow manure. Scott Wapner was kind of funny reminding Carl that they were on live TV and in suggesting that Icahn can pay the FTC fine.
So I stopped watching CNBC last September and just happened to stumble across the death match as it was playing out. It was a little surreal. I initially thought CNBC had changed their format to be more like a Jerry Springer-like "reality" show.

I could not get through it all, too negative, nor did i really understand the details. My gut feel is that whatever they were doing may not be to the best benefit of the economy or the country.

That is the kind of Reality TV I can deal with, better than the Kadashians.
The whole thing about MLM and pyramid scheme draws a very fine line, so not sure who buys these Herbal Life stuff - totally outside the domain of the FDA. Wonder if there will be a SEC investigation.
From this round, looks like Ackmn won points for not cussing. Well, one of them will prove to be right.
