Need new desktop PC
Need new desktop PC
I need to buy a new desktop PC [gaming rig]. I absolutely need North American based tech support. So that leaves out Dell and HP for sure. Do any of you know of any pc manufacturers that have NA tech support?
(I think I've asked something similar in the past, but I can't find it).

Just wanted to add that I DONT want an apple product. So that will save some bandwidth.

You already said gaming. Why are you repeating yourself?Jerilynn wrote:Just wanted to add that I DONT want an apple product. So that will save some bandwidth.

You might want to look into boutique builders such as Puget Systems, Digital Storm, or Maingear.

I have used both AVA computers and Cyberpowerpc in the past.
Cyberpower tech support is basic to non-existent, but cheaper to build, AVA computers are expensive, but their tech support was good.

Thanks. I've heard that the cyberpowerpc makes quality machines, but if tech support is basic to non-existent, then I don't want to work with them.Ranger wrote:I have used both AVA computers and Cyberpowerpc in the past.

I guess I want a PC company with tech support like Apple Care. If such a thing exists.

I have been happy with my digital storm pc. The one time I needed tech support, (Video card went bad withing warranty period) everything went very smoothly to get it replaced.

My last 2 computers I built from parts I bought from newegg and amazon. You can cut the costs quite a bit if you want to do it yourself. Its pretty easy really and you learn a lot about computers and is fun. Lots of online help if you need it check out [H] forums for help.

+1, and I had reason to call tech support and was pleased with how they handled it.pascalwager wrote:I have a Lenovo ideacentre all-in-one desktop with US tech support.

I second the motion to build it yourself. I just built one and it's fun -- I learned a lot and saved money, besides.
I bought everything from NewEgg. i7 Intel processor, Gigabyte motherboard, SSD, Radeon 7770 graphics card.
You'll want a better graphics card for gaming. Or maybe TWO of them in crossfire. You could make yourself a really crazy, water cooled screamer of a machine. It looks like you could do that on Falcon NW, too, but it wouldn't be as fun.
Tom's Hardware is a great resource.
I started to spec out a Falcon machine and it was about twice what I spent, FWIW. (Not an unfair price, just higher. )
Are you serious about the billionaire thing? It would be very tempting to build a completely nuts, multi-monitor rig. If your boyfriend has gaming friends then the hardware is probably a source of competition you can milk.

+1. If you think you would enjoy choosing components and building the system. You will learn a lot and there are a lot of sites that are helpful. You will then be able to do your own updates and tech support.McCharley wrote:I second the motion to build it yourself. I just built one and it's fun -- I learned a lot and saved money, besides.

Yes, a desktop with touch-screen and Windows 8. I really like the new start screen--just touch the BH tile and I'm here! You can pin a start screen tile for any site/file you wish.pascalwager wrote:I have a Lenovo ideacentre all-in-one desktop with US tech support.

I would LOVE to do that. But, with my cognitive/memory issues, I am unable to do it. :sigh:orre wrote:+1. If you think you would enjoy choosing components and building the system. Not to pry, but what are you talking about? Building a PC is not much more complicated than building a Lego set. Seriously.Jerilynn wrote:I would LOVE to do that. There is the matter of electro static discharge (EDS). Some people don't seem to need to take precautions, most people don't have a problem if they take precautions by grounding themselves, but a few people have a talent for zapping components. I've worked with otherwise competent mechanical engineers and programmers who were banned from the lab because they could apparently fry an unprotected circuit board from twenty feet. I bet none of them could assemble a working PC.yosef wrote: Not to pry, but what are you talking about? Building a PC is not much more complicated than building a Lego set. Seriously.
