Want to Have Lunch with Jack Bogle?

Postby Mel Lindauer » Wed Feb 29, 2012 12:55 pm

Hi Everyone:

Jack Bogle has donated a lunch for five to benefit ACHIEVEabilty, a Philadelphia 501(c)(3) charitable organization. The lunch will go to the highest bidder in an online auction. The auction runs March 1-24, 2012, 9:00PM EST.

The lunch will be up for bidding on ACHIEVEability’s website (http://www.achieveability.org) beginning March 1, 2012 at 7:30 pm EST and close March 24, 2012 at 9:00 pm EST. Mr. Bogle will lunch with the winning bidder and up to 4 friends at Vanguard’s Galley on a mutually agreed upon date. Lunch vouchers will be provided.

The opening bid is $1,000. Bid increments must be in the amount of $250 or more. 100% of proceeds from the winning bid will benefit ACHIEVEability, one of the leading social service institutions working to break the cycle of poverty in the Philadelphia Area.

If you're interested, you can learn more about the auction and the terms and conditions by visiting http://www.achieveability.org.

WANT TO HAVE LUNCH WITH JACK BOGLE?

Mel:
That should be quite a luncheon. If the winning bid was from a Boglehead, Mr. Bogle might have to enforce a 2-hour time limit!

The Warren Buffett charity lunch in 2011 was auctioned for $2,345,678. But I'd bet that the average yearly dollar gains from alpha by Berkshire over the past 10 years pales in comparison to the average yearly savings in management fees by Vanguard customers over the same period. So, I say the lunch with Mr. Bogle should go for at least $5 million.

$1000+ from a Boglehead? Yeah, that'd be the day!

While Mr Bogle is THE MAN and the $$ is for charity, the fact that I am a Boglehead will preclude my participation. Thanks for the invite.

Expensive food, but a bargain for the conversation! Congratulations to the person with the winning bid. :beer

While it's really worth a small fortune, it only costs $245.00 to attend Bogleheads 11. viewtopic.php?p=1322518#p1322518

I opted for the hardcover book on amazon for $19.17. I'm sure Jack would be proud of me. Focus on costs, and turnover. Costs are low, and I can turnover the pages all I want for free.

Bogleheads can spend three days with Jack at Bogleheads 11 for a whole lot less ($245). Here's the announcement that shows how: viewtopic.php?p=1322518#p1322518

Ha! If that's true, then what would one call these books I buy for my Nook where I often pay the same price as hardcover. Boglehead Blasphemy?

My comment would be annoying or offensive, but I will let the reader imagine it.
Imagine the time value of $2500 in 20 years?
I like lunch as much as the next guy but that's too rich for my blood.
