Congrats to EmergDoc, a.k.a Jim Dahle, for passing 10,000 posts!

I can't thank you enough for all of the contributions you've made.

Thanks everybody! I'm currently 18th on the list of all time posters. At one point I was 7th or 8th, but began posting here a little less in order to start The White Coat Investor. I hope I've given back at least as much as I've gotten from this fine group of people.

Congratulations!

Apart from the number, the information content, both here an in WCI, is excellent. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and insights with us.

Once I get someone to at least investigate the concept of lazy portfolios, I refer them to your article, "150 Portfolios Better Than Yours" as I think this is the best post on your website! Thank you for all of your effort even for us who aren't in the medical profession.

Could someone direct me to where I can see the rankings of all-time posters? I think I'd enjoy that.

EDIT: Found it! Apparently I've broken the top 1000! yay!

I'm also in Utah and happy to hear of someone out here. WCI and bogleheads are my two favorite finance sites so far!

Jim: Your advice and insights and the WCI site may become an essential lifeline for the new grads, as it has been for me.

The whole medical community is indebted to you, some just don't know it yet.

Thanks again!

EmergDoc... I've directed my several doctor friends, and my nurse daughter (who won't listen to me) to your site...

You've helped a lot of people. Be proud and thank you.

Forgot to add:

In response to very recent additions to WCI: Great show even if the math wasn't perfect. I am reluctant to believe pharma trials and remain reluctant to put my hard-earned money into annuities touted by the pharma-equivalent of annuity trials, though for some reason I abhor the pharma commercials much more than the annuity ads.

You're an ER doc, proven metal and thick skin, with one of the hardest jobs on the planet (though sub specialists recognize this too infrequently - though I do!), and on the war path to improve doctors' ability to survive in an ever-worsening environment.

Go brother!!! Your biased critics' trivial math only elevate my confidence in your guidance and journey. What you do is sorely needed by naive MDs.

Tincture of time, and necessity, will turn WCI into an internet sensation.

Double dog dare: Revsist this thread in 2 years and tell me I'm wrong.

Congratulations on all your successes, EmergDoc. Your book is currently on my bedside table and I like your blog. Your writing style meshes well with how I think. Pragmatic is the word that comes to mind. Thank you for injecting some sensibility into our world!

Congratulations EmergDoc,

I have benefited a great deal from EmergDoc's posts both here on bogleheads and at White Coat Investor.

My three favorite articles on WCI are:

1. How Much Can a Financial Advisor Cost You?
2. Safe Savings Rate (with a table from Wade Pfau's paper).
3. Percentage of Current Income Needed in Retirement.

Here's to another 10,000 posts!

Emergdoc-

I wanted to add my thanks for your contributions. During the dark days of 2008-2009 your voice was one of reason and calm. I seem to remember you rebalancing into REITs (?) while holding your nose! You led by example. That helped reinforce what I knew to be true: Invest we must. Many thanks. :happy

Ok, but how do you rebalance? :confused

Yes, I remember those days well, I added REITS to my portfolio in late 2007. I recall very distinctly losing 78% in them peak to trough. I did rebalance and stay the course and am glad I did. My XIRR/annualized return for REITs from 2007 to now is 9.47% per year.

I never seriously considered throwing in the towel on them, but I distinctly remember wondering if they could go to zero as an entire asset class! That was 6 days before the bottom of the bear. Here's the post:

Yes, that corresponds to my maxim that the best time to buy an investment class is when you feel the worst about it. :moneybag
