Grabiner approaching 10,000 posts

Postby NightOwl » Wed May 01, 2013 11:24 pm

Hi all,

I'm an infrequent poster here at Bogleheads (though a daily reader), so I may not be the best person to post this, but I noticed tonight that grabiner is rapidly approaching 10,000 posts (at 9,995 as I write). I hasten to add that these are (or will be!) 10,000 detailed, rigorous, thoughtful, helpful, and courteous posts -- I don't think I've seen a throwaway comment among them.

I know that I've learned a lot from grabiner, especially about how to approach certain investing questions quantitatively, and I don't think I've ever taken the time to thank him in-thread. So thank you, grabiner, for your massive contributions to this forum.

+1. I too have learned so much from Grabiner but more than anything I greatly appreciate the thoughtful way he explains his position. He comes across as someone who truly cares. A real credit to the bogleheads.

I agree! I try never to miss one of his posts because I always learn something useful.

Always insightful. Always thorough. Always boils the complex down to something simple enough for me to understand.

Never snarky.

Thank you David for all that you contribute!!

I recognized Grabiner from some discussions on Usenet many, many years ago. His presence here was a significant factor in getting me to finally sign up for an account and start posting.

As the coordinator for the Philadelphia Bogleheads chapter, I am grateful that grabiner makes the drive from central NJ to our Philadelphia chapter meetings where he also adds a great deal to our discussion group.

David is a true credit to the community...always willing to give his honest and impartial opinion to any question posed to him. He has been a great help to many.

(Per my signature line, I think the character "Scipio le Moyne" would have approved of getting counsel from David. 8-) )

Not sure what grabiner does for a living, but must say he is the point person when it comes to accounting/ taxation laws for investments. I must say I don't understand everything he writes (above my head), but must say I for one appreciate all his useful insight!!

Good luck.

I've long appreciated his "just the facts, ma'am" (or sir) style of response. Probably the highest ratio of useful-correct-information to words-posted of any poster here.

Not so fast there Philadelphia......David is "on loan" from the Washington DC Local Bogleheads Chapter. We miss him and can't wait until he returns to our group.

David, you are such an asset to the Bogleheads community. Thank you for all you do.

No doubt about it. Grabiner is one of the most valuable contributors to this form and also on our wiki.

No contributor knows more about taxes and their effect on mutual funds. Grabiner frequently backs-up his suggestions with actual computations. I'm impressed and grateful!

Best wishes.

To be serious though, I always enjoy reading his posts. He is incredibly helpful and you can tell he knows what he is talking about.

Thanks for all the posts Grabiner.

I'm happy to be reading Bogleheads regularly. The Signal to Noise ratio (or whatever it's equivalent for discussion forums is) is simply amazing.

It's my sentiment, too. Without David, there is deficit in Washington.

I also know David personally. When he relocates back "home" to DC, the deficit will transfer to Philadelphia.

Thanks to all of you for the appreciation; this is my five-digit post.

And as I have often said, the value of the Bogleheads is not in any one person, but the collective wisdom of everyone. I post a lot on tax issues, but I am not a tax expert, so I depend on what I have learned about taxes from other posters, and on corrections from other posters if I miss a point or get the tax rules wrong. When I give investment recommendations, they are based on what I have learned from my own experience, and from other investors' experiences and knowledge of research which they have shared.

The wiki is a fine illustration of the collective wisdom, which is why I regularly cite it in posts; analysis in it represents the consensus of several wiki editors.
