Updated! Denver Meetup Sat. Feb. 9 @ 3PM at Starbucks REI
Updated! Denver Meetup Sat. Feb. 9 @ 3PM at Starbucks REI
UPDATED WITH LOCATION
I received quite a few emails from Denver-area Bogleheads over the holidays, so I think it is due time to schedule a meetup. The majority of folks expressed a preference for a weekend meeting. However, I'm sure many of you are diehard Broncos fans and will be watching the playoffs closely. So I thought it might make sense to plan for a date after the Super Bowl. Similarly, I know many of you are coming from outside of Denver, so a February date will hopefully give you time to get your calendar in order. With that in mind, let's plan to meet on:
Saturday February 9th at 3:00pm
Starbucks at REI
1416 Platte St
Denver, CO 80202
Also, if you are planning to come, please reply to this thread so I can get an idea of how many people to plan for. Thank you and I look forward to meeting you all in a month!

Re: Denver Bogleheads Meetup - Saturday February 9th
Not sure yet but might be able to come (depends on some open business travel).
Re: Denver Bogleheads Meetup - Saturday February 9th
I will not attend.
Saturday Feb 9: I am volunteering at Ski For The Cure registration desk in the morning, and I'm a sponsor for a fundraiser benefiting our local safehouse in the evening. So no travel to Denver for me that day.
Good luck with the meeting!

I can probably make it too. What normally takes place at meetups (if that's not a stupid question -- and perhaps even if it is)?

I think it is a great question. Maybe I am partial because I also would like to know the answerseachicken wrote:I can probably make it too. What normally takes place at meetups (if that's not a stupid question -- and perhaps even if it is)?
Re: Denver Bogleheads Meetup - Saturday February 9th
Thanks everyone for responding. It looks like we should have at least 6 or 7 of us in attendance. In terms of what a meeting looks like, in the past when I coordinated the Los Angeles group we did several things:
- We made it into a pseudo book club. Picked a title at the first meeting (first book was Predictably Irrational by Dan Ariely) and then everyone read it on their own before the second meeting. That made for some great conversation at the next meetup.
- I would also suggest we pick some topics that would be highly relevant to our group and then have one or two people present on them at the next meeting. Could be anything from investment ideas to person finance to strategies for traveling on a budget.
If anyone has other ideas, please feel free to suggest. Also, we need to pick a location. Any thoughts?

I will attend depending on location.
If a small crowd a Starbucks or Racine's would work.
Need to be off peak.
If in SE`Aurora I may be able to get our club house, but no refreashments would be available so BYOC (Coffee).
I would like to discuss ideas on how to invest cash, besides Prime MM and CD's

Re: Denver Bogleheads Meetup - Saturday February 9th
Happy Super Bowl Sunday to everyone! Not many have chimed in regarding location, so I guess I'll make the executive decision:
Starbucks at REI
1416 Platte St
Denver, CO 80202
Parking is free at REI.
I understand that certain locations will be favorable for some vs. others, but hopefully everyone should be able to get to and find this Starbucks very easily. It is right off of the 25 inside the huge REI. I look forward to seeing you all there next Saturday!

Jon, how many are you expecting?
Re: Updated! Denver Meetup Sat. Feb. 9 @ 3PM at Starbucks RE
Fellow Denver Bogleheads: I sincerely apologize that I was not able to make it to the meeting that I, myself, coordinated on Saturday. I had an unexpected emergency come up related to some renovation work that was being done on my home and I could not break away from it.
I hope those of you that did attend were able to have an insightful and productive meeting. For those of you that did make it, could you do me a favor and chime in with some thoughts and/or a summary of the meeting? It would be great to get some feedback and develop ideas for future meetings. Once again, I do apologize for not being able to make the meeting.

Jonathn:
Hope you were able to manage your emergency and everything is better.
Here are some of my notes from the group meeting.
There were 5-6 of us there, interesting that most of use were engineering types.
Discussed broad topics including AA ideas, writing a plan, keeping a "log", Vanguard versus others, of course ugly money market rates, ladders, retirement (age of attendees was 27-61(me)).
Discussed use of brokers versus going it alone.
Location ok, a little noisy. Atendees came from as far south as Highlands Ranch and as far north as Boulder so from that information the location was very good.
Thanks for setting it up, lets do it again next month.
It was agreed that we should do it again in a month or two.

When is the next Denver meeting?
Re: Updated! Denver Meetup Sat. Feb. 9 @ 3PM at Starbucks RE
i'd be up for another meeting as well.
BTW - there is an online course being offered by Stanford (free of charge) that some on this forum are signed up for. I'm not sure if the enrollment is still open, but I'm finding it to be quite useful.

Hi all,
I apologize that I haven't responded to any of the last couple posts. I forgot to subscribe to this thread and haven't been on the local chapters forum much.
Anyway, I've received several messages about doing another Denver meeting. I'll post a new topic shortly to try to get feedback on when a good time would be to do a meeting.

I will be there !
Jon, thanks for setting it up.
I was at the REI meeting last year.
How about an agenda?
I personally would like to discuss AA (I will retire in 2 years), emergency cash investment,
What other ideas do the others have?
