Electronic person-to-person payments
Electronic person-to-person payments
I'll be paying some students small amounts (usually <$50) for performing chores through the summer. I won't be around to pay them in person, so I'm thinking of electronic payments instead of mailing checks.
I'm considering Google Wallet (https://www.google.com/wallet/send-money/). Money can be sent through Gmail, then funds can be transferred to one's bank account, can be used on Google Play, or you can get a Google Wallet card.
But I know there are many other options such as Chase QuickPay, Amazon Payments, and the like. Any preferences? I looking for a free service which is easy to use for the recipient.
Thanks!

PayPal
Contrary to the belief of many, profit is not a four letter word!
Re: Electronic person-to-person payments
Does your bank offer one? They don't always advertise it much, but many banks have free access to http://www.PopMoney.com which can send via text or email (Chase, Citibank, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Ally, Suntrust, PNC, etc)

I use paypal a lot for transferring money between friends and families. If I can't use paypal I use my bank's bill pay to mail them a paper check.

I use Paypal for that
Re: Electronic person-to-person payments
If you want 100% electronic, then paypal.
But what's wrong with mailing checks, when you are not around? Is it because of stamp cost? If so, most banks will mail the check on behalf of you. You can set it up online.

Paypal is easy, but takes a cut.
There is a relatively new app called Venmo that allows electronic person-to-person transfers. I've used it and it's super easy to use. It's definitely becoming more popular with students for paying their friends if they split a meal, cab, etc. You may find the students you will be working with already have it.

I second the idea of PopMoney through your bank. All it takes is the person's email address (though it is quicker if you have their account number).

Not if you fund it from your bank account and if you select "I'm sending money to family or friends"thedayisbrave wrote:Paypal is easy, but takes a cut.

all the cool kids use venmo on their phones

Chase QuickPay
Re: Electronic person-to-person payments
I use my credit union's online Bill Pay system to even pay individuals where a check is mailed out to them by the bank.
Re: Electronic person-to-person payments
Great suggestions: thanks to all who replied. There so many options now.
I was thinking of Google Wallet since the recipients already have Google accounts and don't need to register--also they don't have to enter their bank account numbers to access funds.
I checked out Venmo--It has a fantastic interface and I can see why it's popular with the younger generation.
Thanks again,
Mud

Do any of these services allow you to send money to someone using your credit on a credit card?
thanks, BFG

How many retired people does it take to screw in a lightbulb? Only one, but he takes all day.

Yup, Venmo is the cool, hip young person thing. Paypal is for old foggies.

Huge fan of Square Cash. It's my go-to whenever I owe money to someone now.
