We live in a rural area where housing prices are pretty low compared with major metro areas in the Northeast and on the west coast. I made a wild-assed guess about our home equity based on a couple of sales in the last year in our neighborhood, on the fact that our house is one of the oldest and least-fanciest in the neighborhood, and on the probability that our local housing market hasn't been affected as much by the 2007-2009 collapse as, say, Phoenix AZ.
Also, after we paid off our mortgage, we came into an inheritance which accounts for about half of the difference between #1 and #3.

40% if I just count my primary home; 80% if I count all real estate. If I factor in pension into net worth, it is probably about 20% and 40%.

I never know how to account for jointly held property, but just using 1/2, it's about 1/3 of my personal net worth.
And it was paid off 10 years ago.

Re: Your Home Equity / Net Worth Ratio?
We have paid off our homes so long ago I don't remember our net worth then but I can say
When we had one home our home equity to net worth was 25%
With two homes (second home purchased last year) the ratio is 56%

Re: Your Home Equity / Net Worth Ratio?
Since my home is a place in Florida (I live in NY, but have a place in Fla)
it's extremely low.
3% at current value, closer to 10% when I bought it at the peak.
Fortunately it was in a very inexpensive area. I never had a mortgage.

Re: Your Home Equity / Net Worth Ratio?
Mine's in the 6% range. I paid it off last year, then immediately (well at PenFed pace) took out a home-equity loan for about 40% of the value. This was more economical than refinancing a small balance.
