Hong Kong closes early; I looked that up earlier today (hint: I used google).

I looked up the NYSE closing but it was not very definitive. The VG site did not mention an early close.

According to this website, "The NYSE is open and a normal trading day on New Year's Eve 12/31/2012."

The NYSE is operated by NYSE Euronext (NYSE: NYX), which was formed by the NYSE's 2007 merger with the fully electronic stock exchange Euronext.

So I went to the Euronext website
http://www.nyx.com
and clicked on holidays and hours then more
http://www.nyx.com/holidays-and-hours/nyse
I don't see an early close for December 31.

So the market will close at the same time as it closed on Monday, June 18, 2012? It is interesting that one has to put 2 and 2 together or 2 and 3 even in the face of some cognitive dissonance or whatever they are calling it nowadays.

The stock market is not open on January 1, just in case somebody asks.
It's all about short-term opportunistic rebalancing due to a short-term change in one's asset allocation, uh, I mean opportunistic rebalancing, uh I mean rebalancing, uh I mean market timing.

..and what a close it was!

"the stock market will pop at least for a couple of days" [extracted from link]

So we can count on the market popping again on Wednesday?
