Haircut Tip - How much poll
Haircut Tip - How much poll
I always wonder how much I should tip when I get a professional haircut.
Assume you are happy with the service and the haircut, how much do you normally tip for a professional haircut?

Re: Haircut Tip - How much poll
My haircut costs $7.
I would be embarrassed to tip someone I've known for almost 10 years $0.70 (10%) or $1.40 (20%).
Especially if I was standing at the cash register counting out nickels and dimes to do it.
She gets a $3 tip ($20 for Christmas) paid in cash.
Most people give her $2 or $3 (a few give her $1).

Re: Haircut Tip - How much poll
$15 for the haircut, $5 for the tip.
Re: Haircut Tip - How much poll
Roughly $2-3 for the haircut for the barber and a $5 tip to myself. (I live in a no tipping country so I keep the tip!)

Re: Haircut Tip - How much poll
Haircut tips are like per-bag porter tips - by the dollar rather than percentage. For me, a haircut costs either $8 or $10 and I tip $2.
Re: Haircut Tip - How much poll
No tipping in Fiji. I pay less than $2 USD for a haircut (not the best) and the barber would be insulted, and everyone else would think I'm weird, if I attempted to pay him more. This whole tipping custom has gotten out of hand in the U.S., in my humble opinion.
Tips ought to appreciation for serverce above and beyond the call of duty. When a restaurant adds a 'service charge' on top of the menu prices, I think that's going to far. I'm all for waitstaff making a fair wage, but put it in the menu prices, please.

Just got a haircut the other day. Guy spent a lot of extra time on my cut.
The cut was $14.95 or $15.95 and I gave $6.05.

I've been cutting my own hair now do about 12 years. I have a buzz cut and was tired of driving to the hair dresser and pay her $15 for such an easy cut every 3 weeks. I figure I've saved about $3,000 so far in haircuts alone. I do it more forth convenience factor though.
Re: Haircut Tip - How much poll
Last haircut was at Great Clips with an $8.99 coupon and gave them $11.00, a 22% tip. Spouse cuts my hair about 50% of the time.

Re: Haircut Tip - How much poll
$12 for the cut plus $3 tip ends up in a nice, round $15.
Re: Haircut Tip - How much poll
Haircut costs $8.95 at the base exchange and I give a $4.05 tip. Finding a new barber every 2~3 years is one thing I will not miss once I retire from the military. I should just bite the bullet and let my wife have a go at it. She is more than willing.
Re: Haircut Tip - How much poll
Agree that this is a rounding rather than a percentage calculation.
$17.00 for the cut and $3.00 for the tip.
$17.00 for the cut and $3.00 for the tip.

I have been going to the same guy for several years now and my tip is typically 15-20%. If I'm late for my appointment, I tip more (so far up to 66%).

Re: Haircut Tip - How much poll
I was a hair designer for 25 years.
Average tips were not often based on percentages so much as a dollar amount.
Haircuts for a woman (at the time) were $40.00. The majority of them tipped me $10.
Men cuts were $25. Tips were usually $10-$15.
Higher cost services (chemicals) $80-$150 came with a $25-$50 tip.
Holidays.....$50-$200 cash, various gifts, and gift cards.
I was self employed and noticed that my clients tipped more to me than co-workers who were not self employed. My rent was HIGH so I always appreciated the extra "thank you" in the form of a generous tip.
I had the same clientele for the majority of my career so can't say what a newer client or a one timer would have tipped but the above was pretty standard for clients who had been with me long term and started out "back in the day" with $16 haircuts!
That being said I also had a real relationship with these people, bent over backwards for them and never turned down an established client for service. They were loyal to me and I respected that.

$12 for the cut, $5 for the tip. If I had been especially lazy about shaving (more often than not) and they trimmed my goatee and mustache, $20-$25 for making me look as respectable as they could.
Of course that took longer, and required 2 beers.

Re: Haircut Tip - How much poll
$22 cut with $5 tip. I've been going to the same person for almost 10 years. She's a personal friend (knew my wife first). But my hair is very short (no bald spots ) and easy to cut, so when we move I will probably go to SuperCuts or someplace really cheap...

Re: Haircut Tip - How much poll
I get my haircut every 2 months for $15 plus $5 tip. Since I get the barber who is available in this 4-barber shop when I arrive, it is awful to handle the Christmas tip. Give none, then they all snicker, though I should give $10+tip to the guy who just cut my hair. Then
I also bring my 8-year old grandson who insists on a professional haircut, does not like my Walmart haircut machine service for a year. That's getting expensive, but he looks great!

$7.99 plus $5.00 tip with a coupon.
$12.00 plus $5.00 tip if no coupon.
Since I have a coupon most of the time, I voted > 50% tip.

I always tip generously to a person wielding a sharp-edged object close to my face.
Haircut is $16, I tip $3
(Where do you guys get $7 and $10 haircuts???)

Re: Haircut Tip - How much poll
I have gotten haircuts in various countries over the past few years. Here is what I have done in places I have lived for awhile:
USA: cost $11 plus $2 tip (barber, good English, ha ha)
Philippines: Cost $2.30 plus .50 to $1 tip (salon, spoke English)
Mexico: Cost $3.75 plus .80 tip (barber, little English but I speak Spanish)
Colombia: Cost $2.20 plus $1.00 tip (included hair wash, no English, tip good cuz my ex-GF's salon)
Thailand: Cost $2.00 plus .70 tip (barber, no English but I spoke Thai)
I also got haircuts in Vietnam and Burma (Myanmar) and regretted it both times

Don't know about tipping b/c I pay $0 for a self-administered Buddhist monk look. The price is right, PLUS my skull appears larger afterward, so I feel more smarter.
