Florida Turnpike Toll-Rental Car

Post by Leesbro63 »

I'm planning a trip to Florida in the not too distant future. Will fly into Fort Lauderdale and get a rental car at the airport. Then drive up on the Turnpike to the West Palm area...not too far. Yeah, I know I can take 95 but would rather take the Turnpike. How do I do this? The days of just getting a ticket then paying toll are over. The rental car companies all offer some expensive option that I'd prefer to avoid. I'll be there for 5 days then take the Turnpike back to FLL. I do have a Pennsylvania EZ Pass, but I don't believe that works in Florida. Any suggestions are appreciated.

According to this DE EZ Pass Web site: http://www.ezpassde.com/where_use_ezpass.shtml, Florida uses a different system.

I avoid the Turnpike in Florida and use the Interstates. That sometimes costs me a half hour in Central Florida, but is no problem along the coasts.

You can order a Sun Pass Mini here: https://turnpikeinfo.com/florida/tolls/sunPass.php

The Sun Pass Mini costs a one-time $6.99, but can only be used on one car, and you have to remove it when done. Most rental companies charge $3.95 to $8.99 per day. :moneybag

FWIW Okeechobee and PGA exits take cash.

There are still a lot of exits that take cash. Here is link to all of them. Do your research, and plan accordingly.
