Learning to Type
Learning to Type
I know how, but my children don't. Any suggestions for a decent software package that would make it fun to learn? The children range in age from 6 to 13. Currently, using an old program from when I was growing up that runs in a dos box emulator. It is functional but boring.
Re: Learning to Type
Strong endorsement for "Mavis Beacon." There is also a Mavis Beacon Kidz version.
Fun and effective.

Re: Learning to Type
Keyboarding aka typing is taught in 3rd grade in our local public schools. What do the kids use in school? What do the teachers recommend?
Re: Learning to Type
My kids have access to typingclub.com through their elementary school. Seems to work for them.

Thanks for the responses. I'll check out the two that were mentioned. Children are currently home schooled...

Thanks for the link about typingclub.com I give it two thumbs up! Plus 8 fingers, too. I'm gonna tell my kids about it.
Re: Learning to Type
My kids learned "keyboarding" using a Spongebob computer program. Worked great for them.
Re: Learning to Type
I tried to learn typing the real way, but I cannot move my fingers like that. I now mainly type using my index fingers and thumb, and can type around 34 words a minute. Not that bad, and my life doesn't depend on typing, so all is well.
Re: Learning to Type
Typing club looks great. I learned on Mavis Beacon almost 30 years ago. I still remember the game mode, that's where I spent most of my time.
