I use TurboTax Deluxe each year and reflexively go through Vanguard's link for a discount. Does Vanguard generally provide the best, or closest to best, TurboTax discount? Wondering if it's worth the time to track down any other places I might get a TurboTax discount from, e.g. my ScottTrade account might offer one, etc.
FWIW, I only own a single individual stock--and only a few thousand dollars worth. It's my Fun Money.
Anyway, if you're a TurboTax user (and no thanks, I don't want to switch to another product--I like and am comfortable with TurboTax), do you simply take whatever discount Vanguard offers? If not, what vendor have you gotten a good TurboTax discount from?
TurboTax best discount via Vanguard? Or others?

Re: TurboTax best discount via Vanguard? Or others?
How about this? If I start via Vanguard's TurboTax link, then find a deeper discount elsewhere, can I switch to that? As long as I haven't finished / purchased anything yet? Every year I've used TurboTax online, I've never had to pay until the end.
In fact, if I recall correctly, you don't even get the Vanguard discount at the end unless you logon using the Vanguard link, e.g. say you start on Day 1, log out, then just log in generically to TurboTax on Day 2 to complete / pay, you wouldn't get the Vanguard discount. Does that sound right?

Like many question on this forum the answer is "It depends".
It depends on what version of TT you need, it depends on whether you want the application installed on your computer or want to work from the internet, it depends on when you purchase the application, and it depends on whether you qualify for some of the discounts that are available. Vanguard Flagship clients can get TT Premier without cost so no doubt this would be the least expensive available but many do not qualify of course.
There are a couple of other conversations going on that are discussing TT extensively and some of the postings have been talking about discounted costs for the application some of which change frequently.
My opinion is that the prices available through Vanguard are probably near the best, but if I am wrong don't bother telling me.

I paid $39 for desktop version Deluxe with state at BJs club. This is where I have bought it every year for many years. If you like desktop, only the Flagship members get a better deal. Online is cheaper.
This year I also tried TaxAct for a lot less. I have trouble every year with backdoor Roth on TT. TaxAct was good on the backdoor Roth, but I did not like it so much for reasons explained in another post. Results were the same --- I owe thousands which means I did not over deduct during the year (no interest penalty)

Thanks Steve and Bob. Will stick with the Vanguard discount.
I'm actually doing Premiere--had an Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP) sale this tax year from an employer I worked for years ago. Still very confusing to me even with Turbo Tax Premiere. The shares had gotten transferred to "Wells Fargo Shareholder Services" at some point, and the stocks had split at some point as well. Real bottleneck right now as I try to proceed with doing my taxes via TurboTax.

Unless you are Flagship, the so-called Vanguard discount is pretty much just street price you can get anywhere else on any random day. Nothing special.tidalwave10 wrote:Will stick with the Vanguard discount.

When I would buy HR Block I would check online sources especially Amazon where the price would fluctuate but usually the download version of the desktop SW would be the best value.
