I think you can get a new Dodge Caravan for around $20k.

kbb.com cpo showing $18,795. I would buy a used Honda over a new Dodge any day. Most, if not all, cpo vehicles, provide better warranties than new.

I can't see spending that kind of money on a three year old Honda.

That's why most are buying new now when it comes to newer used imports. That's what we did. Cash for clunkers destroyed the used reliable car market.

Honda did a revision on Odyssey in 2011. 2011 or above will have better resale value. How long you plan to keep the car.
Good price for 2010 car, its one of the best in its class (minivan).

The 2010 is better looking than the 2011, in my opinion.

The 2011 has problems and in general the redesign is not popular. I'd get the 2010, I think it looks like a fair deal.

Just curious about the mechanics of how cash for clunkers may have hurt the used car market.

It all depends on cost and alternatives. I'd look into a new 2014 Odyssey lease for zero down $199/month that I've seen advertised around (MSRP less than $30k). You get the 6-speed transmission in 2014 as well as latest updates like bluetooth and power seats!

Supply and demand. They didn't just trade them in, they destroyed them unnecessarily, many of them were not even past their half lives. Someone driving a inefficient vehicle in town to pickup groceries is still better off than buying a brand new car and putting 1-2k miles on it a year. It was another program that hurt the poor. Didn't really hurt us, just made it easier to consider new versus used. I bought my car at it's half life and will take it to the grave.

Carsdirect.com is quoting a brand new 2013 Odessey LX for $24,710. Seems like new is a better value if you are planning to hold onto the vehicle for awhile.

We have a 2010 Odyssey which now has 100k miles on it. It has been a great vehicle with no problems. I would agree that the styling of the new Odyssey is not very attractive.

I'd negotiate hard for a brand new LX and compare that price to this $19k. You may find that for just a few thousand more dollars, you can have the newest generation van with no hidden issues and no miles. Don't compare the sticker of the new one to the $19k, because hopefully no ever pays anywhere near sticker with the ridiculous dealer add-on ripoffs. Good luck.

Awful deal for an LX.

The USAA car buying service says you can get a NEW Odyssey LX with a retail of $29,505 for $24,560. I'm sure you could shop this coupon and get it lower. Brand new, zero miles. For 5K difference, get new.

Carfax historical data is over hyped.

The new Honda may look less pretty, but gives you a longer warranty period. For $4k, a new car sounds better.

in my experience it is a good idea to stay away from Hondas for 2 years after the periodic update
