Looking for a decent, branded backpack for office to carry laptop, lunch, snack, umbrella etc with side pockets. I would like to get bogle heads recommendations from their recent purchases.
Thanks in advance

Re: office backpack recommendations
I love my timbuk2 http://www.timbuk2.com/tb2/products/q-backpack/2503651 . Top quality and well thought out, the side laptop compartment in particular. If you're looking for big side pockets it might not be what you need, but on the other hand it has a pretty low profile. I would hate looking like I'm headed for a hike when I go to work.

Do you have an REI store nearby?
If so I'd go look to see what they have (and take your laptop with you so you can check fit and balance).
Brenthavens give a professional image (if that matters).
Tom Bihn is also an option, but personally I think he's better at bags than backpacks.

Tom Bihn products are really well designed to be functional and long lasting (they are also made in the USA of high quality materials and are a little pricey). You might look at the synapse, but they have a number of options in different sizes (note I find they fit more than you might think looking on the website at first-- the brainbag is large enough to lose a basketball in I think).

Re: office backpack recommendations
My Swiss Gear backpack has taken a ton of punishment and still looks good. I carry around 1500 pg textbooks, laptop, and lunch and the seems are still intact. Very high quality. Lots of pockets that are well designed.
The black & grey fits in a professional setting well as any backpack could. The only downside it is bulky, but it can hold a lot. Swiss Gear makes smaller versions if that suits your needs. I've been quite please with it and would definitely buy another one.
