Yes, for some reason, certain longs and shorts are recorded at $0 today.

Every now and again, the script doesn't pick up the current prices correctly, which we seem to be observing today. "Freezing" your options during a bug doesn't freeze it at the buggy price though.

Having been notified, I've tried a few reruns. Usually one is enough to clear the bad quotes. Today, the zeroes just move around. Maybe it's a bad day at yahoo. Maybe yahoo has decided that anyone who downloads 250 quotes in quick succession deserves to get bum info. I'm not really sure at this point.

I'm also on the road and not well equipped nor connected, so this is not a trivial thing to fix at the moment. If I can get a good run, I'll replace the webpage. However, it may happen again tomorrow or the day after or every day for the next two weeks. You are hereby warned.

I just noticed this.

Too late to make amends? Or is my fund simply one stock short? It's fine if it is one stock short. I'm just guessing with other people's money anyway.

Hi Victoria.

I loved the original name, too! I guess I was too concise. I meant to say, I had expected something clever from you and I was not disappointed. I simply didn't notice the initials until later, and I kept returning to your post -- it was either that or do chores -- until I saw what you did. Very cool.

Well, I like the Isaiah Berlin reference, too. :-)

Hi linenfort,

For what it's worth, you and Isaiah helped me co-win the naming contest. If my hedge fund wins the performance contest, I will award to you 100 shares.

Cheers,

The directors of "Age+10 in Expense Ratio" have elected to liquidate the position in NFLX. As of right now, that is a closing price of 444.36, for a 34.2% gain.

Cant liquidate on a Sunday based on Friday price.
So what are these liquidation rules?
Does that portion of the funds stay out of market for duration or get divided into remaining stocks?
I say let your winners run for the big money! In real world, I'd sell under performers and add to winners, I sure did in real life.

Norbert's post on the first page explains the rules. Liquidation is during normal trading hours and it "freezes" that position at the closing price for that trading day.

I don't think the intent is to post during trading hours. (I've never closed a position during trading hours.)

Why don't you stay in the contest and wait for Norbert Schlenker's panel of esteemed judges to provide clarification?

I actually sold AMZN for real on Friday as part of closing out my individual stock positions, but was at work ...
You could do a real trade in AMZN on Friday, while you were at work, but you couldn't post a virtual trade to Bogleheads, because you were at work???? You'd better be an employee of a broker/dealer.

The're's a good reason for the contest rule on these freezes, where you get the closing price after you call the trade. Otherwise, the contest is open to past posting. The rule is the same for everyone. No one gets an advantage.
So if we can only post closing out a position during trading hours (and I work full time) please withdraw me from the event.

Hi Norbert,

Please liquidate my short "OCN" position. Hopefully it will keep me in the green till the end of the contest. I have modest goals. (My portfolio is at +5.7 for the moment if it helps you find me quicker.)

Thanks

I had Alliant Techsystems (ATK), which got spun off into VSTO and OA. Now my ATK shows up as $0.00

Problematic for the simple minded software, which has only three slots long and three short. Pick one of the successor companies and I'll make an appropriate adjustment.

Thankful nowhere close! I'm currently in last place, having my play portfolio short the single lowest priced stock that qualified under the rules (at $0.21 at the time). It's up nearly 50%.

99% of my portfolio is in indexed and/or vanguard funds. i only have a couple of individual stock positions for "fun"-they've worked out ok but i don't know if they've beaten the market- probably not...

I am similar to grok with 99% of my portfolio is index or vanguard funds. I have some "fun" monies in individual stocks and once it reaches a target I move excess into the VTSMX but I have a few position which are "free" so I let them ride. The stocks in the Hedge Fund Contest long stock are my watch list items that I may buy; but I never deal with the short stocks - they are essential my avoid list due to "issues".

As how I am doing I do not look at a true % but rather which home renovation projects they paid for: BUD = 2 bathrooms total redone, FB = Vinyl siding and new windows and doors, HON = inground pool.

How are stock splits handled? SBUX had a 2-for-1 split today, so now it looks like it has lost nearly 40% this year (which is obviously incorrect).

Not that it will likely matter much for my portfolio, as my short selections have killed me so far this year.
