Bernstein's Four Pillars of Investing for $1.99 on June 4th!

Post by guitarguy09 »

See the details on http://efficientfrontier.com. It's a sale for the Kindle version (can use Kindle device or the app on iOS/Android, etc). Came across this randomly and wasn't sure if anyone posted it. Have to love William Bernstein!

Bogleheads love William Bernstein. He is on our Panel of Experts and a featured speaker at Boglehead Conferences.

I once had dinner at a large round table with Mr. Bogle and other investing authorities. At one point, Jack said: "I've never had dinner with so many intelligent people."-- He was looking directly at Bill Bernstein.

These are just a few of Bill's "Investment Gems" in his great book: THE FOUR PILLARS OF INVESTING

If you own a Kindle, Bill's $1.99 offer could be the best investment you ever made.

Best wishes.

Thank you for bringing this to the Boglehead's attention. I whole heartily agree with Taylor's post above. The Four Pillars of Investing is my favorite book in the entire personal finance arena. A MUST HAVE IMHO.

Thanks for posting this. I own the actual bookshelf book, and it's long been one of my favorites, but for $2 I may have to put it on my Kindle too. June 4 happens to be my birthday - great present from a great author. :)

Just $.50 per pillar!

Some users may not know that many of the topics discussed on this board, from risk to gold to rebalancing to investor psychology, grew out of the mind of a single individual in the mid 1990s. At least he was the first person to synthesize them into a single body of knowledge for passive investors. Along with TFPI, his classic posts on these topics can be found here: http://www.efficientfrontier.com/ef/index.shtml .

Thanks for this alert. I used to read about all these super deals on Kindle books before I bought an iPad, but now I can actually use them. I very much enjoy how Dr. Bernstein writes, as evidenced by my reading of The Investor's Manifesto" and I'm sure I'll enjoy his writing of The Four Pillars.

Four Pillars Kindle Sale June 4/Rational Expectations

Post by Bill Bernstein »

[Thread merged into here, see below. --admin LadyGeek]

Hi All:

Plugging my own books makes me squirm, but McGraw-Hill is making me do this

Tomorrow, June 4, one day only, The Four Pillars of Investing is available for $1.99 in Kindle:

http://www.amazon.com/Four-Pillars-Inve ... 1401809737

And, as long as I've gone over the brink, might as well mention that Rational Expectations is available in unofficial "soft release" form:

http://www.amazon.com/Rational-Expectat ... 737&sr=1-5

in paperback. With luck, Kindle in a week or two.

There is just one thing wrong with "Four Pillars" - every time I've recommended it to someone, I can't remember one of the Pillars and it's always a different one.

OP, thanks for passing on the info: it's a great sale on a great book.

Bill:

I would not call it, "plugging" your book when you are alerting us to an almost-free 1-day offer. I paid the full price of $27.95 for your original edition in 2002.

Looking back, your book was one of my best investments.

Thank you and best wishes.

Thanks!

Okay, here's my strategy.

1. Download and reread Four Pillars. (It's probably been about ten years since I first read it.)
2. When finished with #1, refresh Rational Expectations on Amazon every 4-6 hours until Kindle version is available.
3. Download and read Rational Expectations.

I guess I can reread "investing for adults" volumes 1-3 while i'm waiting.

I'm going to make 4 Pillars my next book to read based on this great deal. Question regarding Rational Expectations: Is this an updated version containing similar info to previous books so that one would be correct to read it following 4 Pillars, or would it make more sense to read Volumes 1-3 prior to reading this newest title? Thanks.

Thanks for the interest.

Rational Expectations is listed as volume 4 of the Investing for Adults series, but it's much more than that; it's a more or less comprehensive view of asset classes and asset allocation, and contains some elements of the first three booklets.

IOW, it's an updated, and almost completely revised, version of The Intelligent Asset Allocator.

IOW, again, you definitely don't need to read the first 3 boolets first.

And again, this isn't a book for beginners; like the first 3 booklets, it assumes a fairly high level of finance knowledge.

The $1.99 Kindle sale for Four Pillars is more basic, and is recommended only for those who haven't read it already.
