Best CD Providers: Bogleheads Top Ten List?

Post by RooseveltG »

Many posters have recommended PenFed.

Can anyone provide a "top ten" list of CD providers offering competitive rates and solid credit ratings?

Thanks in advance.

Roosevelt.

https://personal.vanguard.com/us/funds/bonds/bonddesk

Since all CD's are federally insured up to $250,000 per depositor per bank, I would just choose the highest yield for the duration you are looking for from those available through the Vanguard bond desk.

Ally Bank is very popular, particularly for their 5-year CD, due to their competitive rates and minimal early redemption penalties. PenFed is also popular, as they offer a 7-year CD, though the early redemption penalties are higher than at Ally.

http://www.depositaccounts.com/cd/ is where I go for CD rates. Deposit Accounts also has a listing of IRA CD's. Use the menu bar at the top of the page to select various options.
