Has anyone used 83-B for RSUs

Post by FB01 »

Hi,

I just read about section 83-B for RSU

http://www.investopedia.com/articles/ta ... ayout=true

I was granted some shares in April for say e.g 10,000 for 4 years. 25% will be vested when I complete one year in April 2015. For 2015 2500 will be my ordinary income. However as the above link I can report 2500 for 2014 when I file the taxes this year. Per the link, it says 83-B is more beneficial for taxation.

Has anyone done this before? Any pros and cons?

83b is due 30 days after the receipt of RSUs. you might be out of luck.

I read the article you linked and it looks like you can make the 83-b election for restricted stock but not for restricted stock units (RSUs). So it's possible that you wouldn't be able to do it any way if what you have are in fact RSUs (your post seems to imply that).
