Re: moving/bedbugs

Well, the simplest option would be for your daughter to ask to go month to month on her lease and pay a jacked up rate for a single month. If the landlord hasn't lined up a new tenant they would likely agree to another month at 125% of the current rate. Alternatively, you could look into storage places for a month.

So basically, they are designing their cars to pass specific tests. I would image they also design their cars to pass specific crash tests too, so if you get in a crash you want it to be one that closely mimics one of the tests. :D

A few years ago I was doing this...the selling online gaming stuff...not the divorcing part. Once everything was set up and automated it was extremely lucrative in terms of a dollars per hour, but it had a high degree of risk since the group running the game did not approve and there was always the chance they could make your entire inventory disappear unexpectedly.

Would people pay a premium for 'pre-synthesis' gold (ie gold proven to be made before synthesis was cost effective)?
Well, at one point aluminum was worth more than gold, so if you'll trade me a pound of gold for a pound of aluminum foil, then the answer would probably be "yes, gold will retain its value after it can be cheaply synthesized." :D

I formed an LLC for my hobby/ridiculously unprofitable orchard this year. The cost of incorporating is relatively inexpensive (Indiana is less than $100 for two years) if you do the paperwork yourself, but be sure to spend some time educating yourself on some of the more common gotchas for how the corporate veil can be pierced if you are not going to hire a lawyer.

Re: Is private high school "worth it"?

Since your kid is almost ready to head off to high school, I would say that the overall school matters far less than the classes your daughter will be taking (and the fellow students in those classes). In my home town, the public high school overall was so-so at best and was beaten by the private schools on numerous metrics. That being said, the public school spent heavily in advanced placement classes, so the people in those classes got a great education. While the regular classes might have had 25 students, I recall a calculus class with 6 or 8 students.

I read this as your father-in-law has not saved much for retirement and has a scheme to leave money to his relatives. More than the insurance policy, a bigger concern of mine would be making sure that your wife and brother-in-law have a plan for supporting her parent(s) 15-20 years from now.

Getting a $1,000 setup now would also function as a good backup for when you get the expensive camera in a few years.

Re: What is an ideal vehicle to handle a long commute?

For a year an a half I did 130 all highway miles a day in a 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage, but I'm fairly short so the size of the car wasn't a problem. The ~50 MPG I typically got along with $10 oil changes every 7,500 miles really cut down on the cost, but 18 months was as long as I could handle that soul crushing commute.

The "trying to catch a falling knife" analogy seems appropriate in this case. From an investing point, a low mileage unmodified VW diesel might turn out to be an interesting collectors item for car enthusiasts out there.

For what it's worth, I know that my credit history dates back to when I was about 8 years old. That's when my parents got a credit card that they eventually made me an authorized user on when I went off to college.

I typically pay off my credit cards within a few days of making a charge, so one time I thought my identity had been stolen when I ran a credit check on myself and there was a several thousand dollar balance outstanding (but current) on one of my accounts. It turns out it was just my parents on vacation.

$270 a month works out to $3240 a year, and the expected life expectancy of a 73 year old male is 12 years. If the policy has a 30 year term with level rates, it might be worthwhile to run the numbers to see if would be worthwhile for the beneficiary to to pay the premiums.

I'm gonna disagree. Outside of the northernmost US states and Canada, it is very hard to make a financial case for geothermal heating, versus, say much cheaper high-efficiency air-source heat pump equipment. The OP is in Texas, not Minnesota.
Yes, so a big chunk of the electric bill is going to come from cooling, not heating.

I would say sell as well. As a point of comparison, I'm am also on the fence about whether or not to rent or sell a property, but the my property is worth about $100k less than yours, has similar rents, and I have rented to two tenants so far.
