Hi,
Has anyone opted for Storage option for their car with Geico insurance? I called Geico and one agent said I need to email DMV for non use of the vehicle for 30 days and other agent said, it is not mandatory. By Storage option, insurance will continue and only Geico will remove liability and for 30 days, they will give a credit. After 30 days, I need to call back if I want to use the car.
Can anyone give some pointers who have done Storage with Geico?

Re: Census 2020 question
Does it look like the samples on this site? https://2020census.gov/en/about-questions.html Page 4: What is your telephone number? Why we ask this question: The Census Bureau asks for your phone number in case there are any questions about your census form. We will only contact you for official census business, if needed. ---- I suspect there is a small subset of the population that doesn't have a telephone number, but not sure if that overlaps with those that have internet access to fill out the form. In any case, I am fairly certain that the government has or can figure out my cell number, so I will be providing mine. If you are not sure if the site you are entering the information into is the actual census site, then post the URL here. W...

Traveling first time to Chicago - how many days
Hi,
I am planning to visit Chicago for the first time with 8-10 year old kids. How many days should I stay in Chicago and what are the key places I can cover.
3-4 days are enough or any other places which are near to Chicago are worth visiting.
Any suggestions would be helpful.

Re: After tax - Roth 401K contribution
Pre-Tax + Roth + Match + Post-Tax (converted to Roth) can add up to $57k.
Pre-tax (19,500) + Match (say 4500) + Roth (say I transfer 10,000 from my paycheck which is already taxed - I guess that is what you are talking about)
Not sure what you mean by Post-Tax (converted to Roth)...can you explain

After tax - Roth 401K contribution
Hi,
I see that my company is offering After Tax - Roth 401K contribution which I believe is called Mega Back Door Roth Rollover. Total I can contribute is 57K a year.
Question : I am already doing Backdoor Roth as my income exceeds the limit. So I put in Traditional IRA first and then move to Roth IRA (12k a year - for me any my wife).
Now this 12K is included in 57K or that is separate?
Also, unlike Roth IRA conversion - my money is not taxed as I am first putting in TIRA and then converting but in this case it will be taxed and then moved to Roth 401K account.
Can someone please help confirm?

Disney Plus - how many log-in's at a time?
Hi,
I am planning to get the Disney Plus subscription for whole year which I believe is $70. If anyone has bought this service, can I know how many people can log-in at the same time. I would like to share log-in details to my friends and family. Can 3 or 4 people watch is simultaneously on different devices?
I could not find that information.
Any suggestions?

Re: Did not do Backdoor Roth IRA correctly for wife
Yes, you have to pay taxes on any gains. You would recharacterize the amount contributed plus the gains. Your brokerage will calculate it for you. Paying the taxes now is cheaper than paying the 6% forever. It’s much easier to fix prior to tax day, but you have until October. https://www.investopedia.com/articles/retirement/03/092403.asp Deadline to Recharacterize The deadline for recharacterizing a Roth conversion or IRA contribution is your tax-filing deadline plus extensions. If you file the tax return on time (generally by April 15), you receive an automatic six-month extension, which means your deadline to recharacterize a 2019 contribution is October 15, 2020. O, the limit for 2019 is 6k if you didn’t know. (7k if 50 or older). Do it...

This was for 2019. Can I still do it? Also, do I need to pay any tax on the gain or whatever is the amount increased, that I will have to move.mhalley wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2020 11:42 am This is easily fixable, happens all the time. Have the brokerage recharacterize the Roth as traditional, after that is done the complete the backdoor SS normal.

For e.g, 5500 contributed became 7000. I don't pay any tax on 1500 gain and move whole 7000..is that correct?

Did not do Backdoor Roth IRA correctly for wife
Hi,
I was doing Backdoor Roth IRA for 2020 and realized I did some mistake for 2019 for my wife accounts. Below is the issue
My wife does not work but I contribute 6000 in her account for Roth IRA by doing Backdoor Roth IRA.
For 2019, I transferred to my Rollover IRA and then did the transfer to my Roth IRA Brokerage account. However, for my wife's account, by mistake I did not transfer first to her Tradition IRA Brokerage account and transferred directly to her Roth IRA Brokerage account and converted to Roth IRA.
How does this impact tax for this year? Can you please help

Question about WFIOX (Wells Fargo Index Fund - Class Admin)
Hi,
I am putting my HSA fund in WFIOX (Wells Fargo Index Fund - Class Admin). I was looking at the dividend reimbursed and it was given at $44.15. In 2018, it was given at $48.99. The price should be increasing and not decreasing which confused me. I checked morningstar and distribution amount is decreasing
https://awrd.morningstar.com/SBT/Tools/ ... cker=WFIOX
Am I missing something? With the stock market going up, price should be increasing and decreasing.
Thanks,

VTI/VTSAX - Expense ratio
Hi,
I just realized the expense ratio of VTI is 0.03% and VTSAX is 0.04%. For my Roth IRA, I have been investing in VTSAX since day 1. Now as it has got substantial amount of money, is it advisable to change to VTI or just keep VTSAX.
I know once I change to VTI, i cannot change to VTSAX. Is there any advantage is keeping VTSAX and not moving to VTI?
Any suggestions?

I had a cheap one which used to hold the iPhone on the air vent but it is not holding good.

Hi,
I rely on Google calendar heavily to set up reminders which are emailed to me. If there is some expert out, there ..need quick help
So when I set a new reminder, besides the bell icon it has option of Notification and Email and both are available in drop down.By default Notification gets selected. Is there anyway to default this to "Email"..any setting that can be changed. Every time, whenever I set reminder, i need to remember to change the dropdown to email..which I forget sometimes.
Any pointers.

Currently Apple series 3 watch is selling for $200 and there are not much change in functionality when compared to Apple Series 5.
I am planning to order 38MM Case watch. However, there are no options for 38MM bands. If I go for bands, it shows 40MM and 44MM.
Will 40MM watch band fit my Apple series 3 watch for 38MM? Any idea

Addressing similar first names in an email
Hi,
If I am emailing someone and two have similar first names, I would put it like this way
"Hi Mike T.
Per my discussion with Mike C., whatever I want to write"
So here I am putting their first name and initial of the last name in the email.
However, how would you address if the first name and the initial of the last name is also similar. For e.g Mike Troupe and Mike Tram..now here both are Mike T. ....
Any suggestions would be helpful..

I personally wouldn't pull money from my retirement accounts unless they were over funded. I would have my kids take out loans and consider ROI when it comes to colleges, degrees and expenses. Then if they needed help after college paying off the loan, I'd be willing to give them a hand, but ideally their education will land them a good job to be able to pay off the student loan.

Using Roth IRA for 529..is it a good idea
Hi,
I am putting 529 for my kids but it still does not have that much funds. I have couple of years for the kids to start college. On the other hand,I am putting money in Roth 401K regularly and it has more funds.
Out of curiosity, what would you guys do when time comes to fund the college - after using 529, should I pay money from my savings or use 401K Roth Ira money? Which one would make more sense as the growth of 401K funds will not be taxable but on the other hand I am reducing my retired balance.
Any suggestions would be welcome

Can anyone please give suggestion for Jansport backpack which can work in 4th grade and beyond and is not too heavy also?

I have put some money in AT&T (T) and earning some pretty good Dividend since couple of years. However, since couple of weeks, reports of AT&T are not good. Before I sell off AT&T, I would like to see if any of the Vanguard Index fund is also keeping stake in AT&T (it was before).
How can I search in which of the Vanguard Index fund,AT&T is there? Say for e.g VTIVX...
Can anyone help, if there is an easy way where it will say AT&T is all these 10 index/mutual fund?

Honda Odyessey Service questions
Hi,
I went for oil change for my Honday Odyessey after 3 years. I haven't driven the car much..just 20K miles. The guy said, we will need to change transmission fluid, brake fluid and power steering fluid giving me estimate of around $800.
In my Camry, I changed these fluids whenever required, may be after 60k or 70K miles.
Do I need to change all these fluid so early in Honda Odyessey or should I wait till it is required. Any car experts?

Sorry...
If I was not clear...
I am not planning to get the MaxPass. I read somewhere that with regular tickets you can get FastPass for some rides. Can you help me that strategy?

Getting FastPass with regular Disney tickets
Hi,
I will be getting regular Disney tickets for Calilornia. Is there any strategy to get FastPass with regular tickets? I see that there is option to get MaxPass but for that I have to pay $15 per person more.
Would be helpful if someone who went recently at Disneyland California can give some insight?

Anyone recently been to Universal Studio, LA. I am reading that Ollivanders Wand Shop should be the first one to visit and but a want with is like $25 and $48 and then to do the arry Potter and the Forbidden Journey.
Is buying the wand worth it and waste the time standing in the line?
Apart from that, if anyone tell me what rides to go first that would be great. There are number of articles but who just went recently, might be helpful
Also..any tips are suggestions are welcome
When are you going?
FWIW - we are headed there next week.
Not taking the fast passes..Plannig to go next month....Do share your experience once you are back
Smitcat,

How to remove a website from MacBook completely
Hi,
For e.g, I went to hotmail.com today and then I cleared the history. However, in MacBook, when I type "ho"...the hotmail.com comes up automatically.
What should I do so that MacBook does not recognize "hotmail.com"

I am unable to edit like 32 on Schedule 1 where it shows $1950Epsilon Delta wrote: ↑Mon Feb 25, 2019 1:51 pmI have no idea where TT got that. The IRA Deduction Worksheet in the 1040 instructions includes:
FWIW I'd suggest editing line 32 on schedule 1 instead of line1 on 8606. A careful reading of the tax code suggests that the line 32 number is the election.https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i1040gi.pdf wrote:On line 12a, enter the smallest of line 7a, 10, or 11a. On line 12b, enter the smallest of line 7b, 10, or 11b. This is the most you can deduct. Add the amounts on lines 12a and 12b and enter the total on Schedule 1, line 32. Or, if you want, you can deduct a smaller amount and treat the rest as a nondeductible contribution (see Form 8606).....

Re: Backdoor Roth IRA conversion - Charging Tax in Turbotax
The offsetting deduction and taxable conversion often make no difference in your taxes. If that's the case you could decide it's not worth wrestling TT to do what you want instead of what it wants. I had this same thought. If it is doing what I think, there is no difference in tax. But I agree with nolesrule - it's just cleaner to not deduct the $1,880 (even though eligible) and it will make a difference if a withdrawal is wanted within the next 5 years because that $1,880 would be subject to penalty. I'd keep trying to figure this out. It is possible that tfb's approach to enter the 1099 first and the contribution second only works right if the person is not eligible to deduct anything in the first place. Hi all, This is what is showing i...

Re: Backdoor Roth IRA conversion - Charging Tax in Turbotax
I am following instruction as mentioned on https://thefinancebuff.com/how-to-repor ... botax.htmlDosCommas wrote: ↑Sun Feb 24, 2019 4:58 pm I did it recently and it worked correctly. You have to submit both non-deductible contributions (1 for you and 1 for your wife) and the 1099-Rs for the conversion, and also specify the basis correctly. If nothing was in any traditional IRAs before you specify the basis of $0. If there was $1882 in your traditional IRA prior to you adding the $11,000, then when you converted $12182 you would owe taxes on the $1882. Do not include Roth IRAs in your basis when asked.
I have not put 1880 anywhere but still doing some calculation from somewhere ..not sure?
