We bought a 77" OLED from Best Buy last year and decided to use their Geek Squad to install it. Since it was an expensive TV, we wanted them to be on the hook (and not a third party installer) if there was an issue with unpacking the TV.
They did an OK job. While they did a nice job of hiding the wires in the wall, it was mounted a few inches higher than I requested. They gave some excuse about the outlet location, but it didn't make sense to me. Keep in mind you will need to buy an in-wall adapter kit if you want them to do that.

I use % of gross, and calculate 2 numbers- one with vested 401k match, and one without it.
The only reason I calculate these % is to compare our spending from year to year. This isn't a number I'm sharing with people IRL.

Luckily we are at the point where $20 a year isn't going to be a big deal, so we will keep it.
I'm curious how much they will charge for the NFL Sunday Ticket package if they get it, as rumored. DirecTV currently charges around $350 a year, though you can often get it for free if you haggle.

I've been using Mint for over 10 years. I like their expense tracking for credit card spending, and that is the main reason I use it. I've considered removing my investment accts from there, but haven't done it yet. Plus my wife understands Mint much better than she would an investment spreadsheet.

I've had really bad experiences going from the city to the northern burbs in recent months. It's very difficult to get a Lyft/Uber driver at off-peak hours and I've had to pay some crazy premiums when riding at odd hours (the worst was a $250 Uber fare for a 40 min drive).
I would stay overnight at a hotel on Camp Creek Parkway.

Who is your provider? DirecTV has a decent amount of 4K sports but you need 4K ready DVRs. My main issue with that is they have to be hard-wired to coax, and you can't use the DirecTV wireless genies.
You can get free 4K sports on some apps (such as the Fox Sports app). The picture quality in 4K is truly amazing.

Re: Citibank credit card - can you win a dispute?
I just initiated a dispute with Citi, so we will see how it goes. We bought tix for a kids' event in Dec, and the organizer sent an email before the event saying that we could cancel if we had Covid exposure. There was no cancellation deadline written on the email.
The morning of the event, we found out someone in our group had Covid exposure, and we emailed to cancel. The organizer wrote back and said the cancellation deadline was the night before. I argued and said that there was no deadline on the email, but she ignored all my follow-up emails.
If I had known about a deadline, I would have at least found someone to give the tix to for free (tix cost $135 total). Since there was no deadline written on their email, I am disputing.

Our kids are turning 5 and 8, and we are thinking about doing our first Disneyworld trip this Oct during fall break. They are both big into the Disney character universe. I normally love to plan vacations, but this one is definitely overwhelming. We may just use one of those free Disney planners.
Before they were school aged, we did do a week long Disney cruise during an off-peak time. And that was absolutely stellar (though very pricey compared to a normal cruise, even off-peak).

Last year we moved, and went from a 2 car to a 3 car garage. I'm grateful for a 3 car, as we use it for storage and our trash and recycling cans. Our goal is to keep it clean enough to fit a car though, as we will likely get a third car when the kids start driving. I see a lot of neighbors that keep their 3rd bay entirely for storage.

Re: Cars -- When and Why Did You Switch from Economy/Practicality to Luxury?
The cars I've owned have all been economy brands- Toyota, Mazda, and now Hyundai. I've bought new and driven for 10+ years.
On the flip side, my wife has only ever driven luxury brands- Acura and Lexus before we were married, and now Volvo. She also buys new and drives for 10+ years.
I am considering making the move to a luxury brand with my next vehicle (likely 3+ yrs away). I enjoy driving my wife's Volvo, and could see myself in a nicer car one day. But for now, I am enjoying the ability to use 87 gas and not having to stress over door dings on my old Hyundai

Not including all-inclusive resorts and cruises, I think the most we've paid is around $350 a night. However, my kids are now entering school age and I'm a little scared of how expensive hotels, condos, and resorts are during school breaks. Until now, we've been able to travel off-peak.
I'm fine with splurging on vacations though. Our family didn't go on vacations when I was growing up, and I don't want that situation for my kids.

Since you are accustomed to a 5.1 system, you'll definitely notice a sound quality downgrade with a soundbar (unless you go with a higher quality soundbar than Samsung).
We have a Bose 700 soundbar with subwoofer in our family room, and a 5.1 system with Denon receiver and KEF speakers in our media room. The media room sounds much, much better. Soundbars are ideal when you don't have room for rear speakers/sub, or have to deal with spousal approval.

However, I still miss the gym weight machines. I don't have enough confidence in my form to use really heavy weights with home dumbbells, and we don't have enough space for a weight machine at home. If our work gym re-opens, I'll ideally do a plan of weightlifting at work, and cardio at home.

My wife drives a 2018 Volvo XC90. This was my first higher end car purchase, having previously owned Toyota/Mazda/Hyundai. In terms of prestige, It doesn’t have the status of Audi/Benz/BMW, but I’m okay with that. I like its understated luxury.
We love the car so far. I know long term reliability could be an issue, so we picked up the Volvo extended warranty.

Re: Mercedes Benz extended warranty and prepaid maintenance
My normally extremely frugal parents just bought a Benz GLC300 yesterday. It’s definitely a change of pace after decades of driving Honda and Toyota. It’ll be interesting to see what they think of the long term maintenance costs.

Re: GEICO Umbrella: Significant Increase in Premium
I just received my first umbrella quote with Geico (already have auto and home with them).
They quoted $273 for $1m and $491 for $2m. We decided to go with $1m for now.

Re: Slickdeals and others
I still love Slickdeals but I don’t see as many killer deals as I did 5+ years ago. They did help me procure a $100 off $500 Costco coupon recently though (used it for the new gen iPad Pro).

Re: Moving-YouTube Tv vs. Directv
We bought a new home last year and stuck with DirecTV, mainly for Sunday Ticket (wife and I are both fans of different out of market teams). When Sunday Ticket leaves Directv in a few years as rumored, we will consider streaming TV, depending on pricing.
One item to consider if you are into home theater- YouTube tv doesn’t offer any content in Dolby Digital 5.1. But this doesn’t matter to your average consumer using TV speakers or a cheap sound bar.

Re: Discuss Net Worth with Adult Children
My parents are in their early 70s, and I'm the only child. They started discussing their net worth with me about 6-7 years ago. They don't use a financial advisor so I do help them with their asset allocation and some basic investment decisions. They don't have a huge portfolio by Boglehead standards, but spend very little. They are the type that are so accustomed to saving, that it feels strange for them to spend now that they actually have money. For example, my dad has been car shopping for the last 5 years but still hasn't pulled the trigger! They've already told me I'll be getting everything after they pass. Spouse and I have been doing well financially, and the possibility of a low 7 figure future inheritance hasn't increased our leve...
