Get an energy audit first. Our 15 year old high end Pellas lost very little heat, but the area around the windows lost a lot.
Most of the heat loss was from the foundation, duct work and ceiling.

Yes, both the premiums and the HSA contributions are above the line. An HSA is an IRA on steroids.
I would guess health care reform will remove most HSA benefits, so do it now.
