Yes, that would mean you are paying even more money but if you want the fewest possible people when touring the exhibit, it is what we've found to be most efficient and enjoyable.

I've never flown Delta to LHR, but I can second the comments about BA. I flew JFK-LHR for years on BA until the entire experience became so deplorable that I vowed never again.

Re: Have any BH's seen the Roman exhibit at the British Museum?

I don't know if this works for you, but we have annual memberships (I think a membership allows self + 1 guest) - and that includes tickets to all the Special Exhibitions and you don't need to book. And it gives you access to the eating area on the first floor (ie 2nd) in the Members' Room. But we live here. We went to the China exhibit on a membership admission which has now expired. Made no difference whatsoever. Had to queue outside to get in to security, had to queue to get in to the exhibit itself and, as I said, we couldn't even get near the exhibit cases for the phone photographers. $30 might not be exorbitant as a charge, but it's a bit stiff if you don't enjoy the experience! It's not sold out, as the China show was. As of this mo...

Have any BH's seen the Roman exhibit at the British Museum?

The British Museum exhibit Legion: Life in the Roman Army sounds very interesting.
However, at close to $30, it's not cheap, and the last exhibit we saw there, 19th C. China, was mobbed, even on a members' admission. They allowed photography, so we couldn't even get near the exhibit cases behind the crowds taking pictures with their phones.
I'm a bit concerned that this will be a repeat performance, and I'm wondering if any Bogleheads have seen it.
TIA.

Call their bluff.
Many years ago I received a message from Amazon informing me that they were closing my account due to excessive returns.
Many of the returns were for damaged items or for clothing that did not fit.
I told them that they were welcome to close the account at any time and wished them best luck in finding more desirable customers.
I received a groveling apology and a commitment to maintain the account.

I think there are lots of - not rules, exactly, but guidelines that boglehead types pick up along the way:
- don't buy it if you don't need it, don't understand it, can't use it
- buy in bulk where it's practical
- every little bit helps
- shop around
- be frugal with yourself and generous toward those you love (some may disagree with the first clause!)
- educate yourself as much as you can about money management and investing
- if it seems too good to be true, it is
- make do and mend
- hold on and stay the course
- if you don't know what to do, ask the bogleheads!

It's an MVNO for immigrants. Don't call them. Use the website.
Many thanks.
I have a calling plan with Rebtel - $5/month for unlimited UK. I don't understand the technology, but Rebtel morphs the UK numbers into numbers with a US area code.
Some UK numbers are not available on Rebtel because, as you note, they are 900-type numbers, but the Lyca number works. I just tried it.

It would be a good idea to get Vanguard’s own POA form (if they have one) done while everyone is able to complete the form. FYI - Vanguard operates a bit differently. You need to name someone a "Trusted Person." That person will have a general POA signed and witnessed - when/if necessary, they submit it to Vanguard to enable them to take actions on your behalf. I set that up recently. Just out of curiosity, what would happen if someone granted VG agency to someone but had a POA (with language granting the POA broad powers over financial matters) who was different? I have not set up VG agency yet so I haven't seen the language in this document. If by "Agency" you mean Trusted Person," I believe the "Trusted Per...

I don't know what happens to returned units these days. Many years ago, I returned a mattress and was sent a replacement that had clearly been used. I have now learned that manufacturers are required to tag the mattress with the date of manufacture. Re: What frugal thing did you do today?

I guess this incident was a combination of deliberate and inadvertent frugality:
I put in a $100+ order to Amazon Fresh to qualify for free delivery by purchasing larger quantities that are more economical in any case.
No delivery!
Amazon messaged at 8.40p that the order had been delivered, which it most certainly was not.
At 9p I tried to get the order refunded online - non-refundable. Finally got through to a rep.
Not only did they refund the cost of the order, they issued a $20 "promotional credit" for my trouble.
So I'm $20 to the good, but I don't have any groceries. Oh, well, you can't have everything in this life.

For now I would focus on acquiring a Geriatric Care Manager. They can advise on and coordinate the situations you are facing.
It is not easy to hammer all this together, and it will take some time, but having someone coordinating all the moving parts will help a lot.
Once everything is rolled into place, you will have much greater peace of mind.
Where are you located? If you PM me, I would be more than happy to refer you to some agencies and practitioners if they are in your area.

I wouldn't get LVP because in my neighborhood the buyers tend to be environmentally conscious, and if I needed to sell it would be a huge disadvantage. Also, I like the look of wood. In my building, there was an issue regarding possible asbestos in the glue of the original 60's wood flooring, I would have had to spend +/- $20K for an abatement, or else get an engineered wood floor placed over the original floor. I chose the latter. I went with Mirage, a Canadian firm, and chose their Maple, wide plank, in Sierra. I love the look of it, and it requires minimal care - swiffing and weekly mopping with a solution they suggest. If either/both of those two rings disappeared, would you want to replace them? And if so, would you actually do that? Also, would you just be very upset if they were gone, or would it not be such a big deal? The answers to those questions should help with your decision. What also matters is whether you think you'd ever wear them again, or will they end up locked away like that all the time? Is there anyone else (e.g., in your family) who might enjoy them? RM Hard to know how I would feel if they were gone - I would feel bad, certainly, but it wouldn't change my life because I don't wear them. Most likely would not replace them. There's no one else to wear them. I think it's just that I feel there's such a low probability of anything happen...

I have some rings that I stopped wearing at the beginning of the pandemic when we were washing our hands every 10 minutes. I don't think I'll go back to wearing them. They're worth a few thousand dollars and they're insured as a rider on my home insurance, for $165/year.

I have T. Rowe Price Capital Appreciation, PRWCX. It was included in my 403(b) choices and I've been pleased with it.

You have enough that you can afford to rent for the rest of your life, and enough that you can afford to break the lease on an apartment (or several) that you don't end up liking.
Thanks, Beensabu. That's a very interesting idea.
Only problem is that there are very few rental buildings in the area I want.
I just had a trawl through the available ones, and there's nothing that would meet my criteria. The only one in a good location has what I would consider undesirable layouts.

Yes, it would be a lot cheaper!
But all renovation work in the building is controlled. The contractor I would hire would come with a door and tools. The doorman wouldn't even let them in the building. And if I could sneak them in and there was damage to anything in the building, I would be fined if they discovered it was my contractor.

These are large buildings I will be looking at and I specified to the realtor that I want the apartment to be situated far from the compactor room.

Re: Should I Stay or Should I Go?

It sounds to me like quietness is the characteristic that is most important to you. Given that you have a very quiet place right now that is workable for you, I’d stay put. Very good point, thanks. There is one aspect that is not quiet, which is that the apartment is across the hall from the compactor room. I don't hear it in the bedroom, but when I have company in the living room, it's very embarrassing when neighbors slam the door. I begged the management to install soft-close doors, but it fell on deaf ears (possibly literally!). Gracious living is not part of the culture here. They re-did the lobby a few years ago with all hard surfaces. People like to scream their conversations, and it's horribly noisy. But the management doesn't seem...

Great question, but so hard to answer. I want a quieter neighborhood, a more dignified building atmosphere and a more gracious layout.
BUT I don't know what I would have at a new apartment - e.g. who will be living above me and how quiet they will be. Or if there will be someone next door to me with a piano.
I don't love my current apartment, building or neighborhood, but the place is like a tomb (in a good way!).
