Re: St Maarten
My wife and I went for our honeymoon and had a great time. I am normally fine visiting someplace just once but would go back without question. We rented a car and went to a different beach everyday. We stayed at Little Divi Bay Resort in Phillipsburg, the beach here is just ok but the snorkeling is fabulous! Our favorite beach place was Friars Bay, great amenities, food, wine, decent snorkeling, etc. Our normal MO was to eat breakfast at our condo, pack a lunch of cheese, bread, charcuterie, a couple of beers and head out to the beach. After we were done with the beach we would go for some shopping, nature walk, or just drive around and explore. Some of the things that we did, and would do again are: Hike to Petite Caye Lunch at the Lolo's ...

Re: Who Invests 100% in Passive Index Funds/ETFs
95.7% Index Funds, the remainder is stock in a large regulated electric utility that I have owned since birth. My wife and I are lucky to have some good selections in our 401k plans, the lowest ER being 0.01% and the highest 0.27%.

Re: Car Seat Covers
I have been very satisfied with the Marathon seat covers in my truck, but I think they only cater to the truck/SUV market. My suggestion is to find a forum dedicated to your vehicle and read the discussions there. For instance, the general consensus on the Acadia forum is that products from CoverKing.com are the good. I have no personal experience with them myself.

Re: What do you do with your "x-year-service" gold watch
Is is possible to replace the back piece with the company info, and then sell it? My wife took her watch to a jeweler and had the company logo removed, although it was only an emblem that was pinned in. The nice part was that our cost was zero, including repairing the band, because the jeweler bought the gold in the emblem. Now she wears it daily, I don't think that would be the case if the emblem was still present.

I have taken several classes on Coursera (https://www.coursera.org/) and enjoyed them all. Also check out Udacity and edX for additional online education opportunities.

Re: 401k to Vanguard IRA - Asset Allocation Questions
Thanks for the warm welcome and encouraging replies. mhc, Thanks for the links, I'll have a look later this evening. I did find the Lazy Portfolio in the Wiki which gave me a lot of good info. I have done a bit of reading re: 529 plans and I think this is a topic in itself. I'll shelve my specific questions until I know more and have researched the collective wisdom here. Let me guess, you're a mustachian ? If you don't know what I'm talking about, click the link, you will LOVE this guy. Hoppy, I have read the MMM blog and forums and that inspired me to consider the possibility of working less and spending more time with my family. I don't know if it will happen, but I am keeping it in mind. I did post the same question over there, I am cur...

401k to Vanguard IRA - Asset Allocation Questions
I have decided to take a more proactive role in managing our money and found my way over here. I think that I have always been a pseudo Boglehead but not quite as refined or informed. I am trying to change that quickly but it seems there are endless topics! Currently I am studying asset allocation and tax implications in addition to taking Finance and Personal Finance on Coursera. Following that, I will be looking at implementing a college fund. All suggestions, criticisms, advice, etc. are greatly appreciated. Here are my vitals: Emergency funds: Six Months Debt: $30,000 HEL, 5 year fixed at 2.0% Tax Filing Status: Married filing Jointly, two children expected in May :D Tax Rate: 25% Federal, 4.35% State State of Residence: Michigan Age: 3...
