The Guardian quote that I received had the same definition for total disability as you pulled but also included the following: "If you have limited your usual occupation to the performance of the material and substantial duties of a single medical or dental specialty, we will deem that specialty to be your usual occupation." (policy for a primary care physician). This feels a bit more iron-clad than the MetLife language as it seems possible that there could be a dispute over what one's "usual occupation" is, but maybe I'm just seeing ghosts. Correct, CA is one of 5 states that it's not approved in. There are several policies better than Protector+ in CA. I'm curious as to what the several better policies are. I'm in CA, and the quotes that my agent pulled were for Standard Protector+, Guardian ProVider Plus and MetLife Salary Saver AH8-96. With respect to the MetLife quote that I received, I'm curious whether anyone has views on the following "total disability" definition: "Total disability means that as a result of injury or sickness, you are unable to perform with reasonable continuity the substantial and material acts necessary to pursue your usual occupation in the usual or customary way". This definition doesn't seem as strong as the gold standard Guar...
