Tax loss harvest question. Can use it to offset IRA -> Roth IRA conversion?
So, I have thousands in short term capital losses so far this year. Can I convert the same amount of losses from Traditional IRA to Roth IRA as a 1:1 offset, to "use up" all of those losses and pay no taxes on that conversion?

Thanks for your responses. Seems consensus is somewhere between A and C (with possibly a better bond vehicle than BND).

Roth vs. aftertax in a 3-fund portfolio: where does the $ go?
Let's say in a simplified portfolio without any Traditional IRAs and that this is new money to invest (so there's no capital gains exposure), one wants to invest in the 3-fund portfolio. To maximize gains and reduce taxes, how should one be investing this $1M? Assume half is in a Roth IRA, and the other half is not in any retirement funds, but are just after-tax brokerage funds. And that the AA has been decided (see below). I'm interested in discussing the pros/cons of each option A, B or C. If we would add Traditional IRAs or traditional 401k investments to this mix, of course those would be in the TBM bucket. But let's keep this as simple as possible. Where should Roth money go and where should after-tax money go? What option do you think...

Minnesota summer mtg w/ Mel Lindauer and Allan Roth is June-12, 11am CDT
We're really fortunate to have booked two stellar guests for our next MN BH meeting: Mel and Allan. (Their speaking fees are ridiculous! and their green-room demands are crazy :) Narrator intones: It is $0 and is a virtual meeting ) Saturday, June-12, at 11:00 (central of course). 11:00 – 11:05 Introduction of speakers & discuss format 11:05 – 11:45 Allan presentation 11:45 – 12:30 Q&A with Allan and Mel (pre-submitted questions and live questions) 12:25 – 12:30 Conclusion, thanks, and signoff Although there have been many questions already submitted, there will be some time to answer "live" questions from the Zoomers as well. Re: Can someone point me to 25 years worth of market returns that include dividends?
For those more graphically inclined, instead of a staid table, here's our AA over time.
I realize it doesn't make much sense to compare our return (made up of TSM, TISM, and TBM) to just TSM, but it's what I started doing a few decades ago and can't give it up now.
If $100 invested in 1994...
Model return vs. actual return (difference is that we used to have TIPS, and REITS, and SC, etc. so it wasn't a "pure" TSM or TBM... in last few years, it has been pure TISM, TSM and TBM, and thus the modeled vs. actual differences are near zero

Re: Can someone point me to 25 years worth of market returns that include dividends?
Awesome. Exactly what I was looking for. In fact, in my tracking AA spreadsheet, I've (finally) replaced Nasdaq with TISM. I had been tracking Nasdaq returns for years, just because I used to invest in QQQ, and individual tech stocks back at the turn of the century. (yeah, that turned out well...). So, as pv.com doesn't readily have Nasdaq data, but does have TSM, TISM, and TBM data (which is what our AA is), I removed it and added TISM, and also retrofitted all of my prior annual benchmarks with this new data set. https://i.imgur.com/XD4sA3I.png https://www.portfoliovisualizer.com/backtest-portfolio?s=y&timePeriod=4&startYear=1985&firstMonth=1&endYear=2020&lastMonth=12&calendarAligned=true&includeYTD=false&i...

Can someone point me to 25 years worth of market returns that include dividends?
I'd love to get 3 data sets: Going back 25 years, the annual returns that include dividends of Total US stock market, Total Int'l stock market, and Total US bond market. ETF and mutual fund ticker prices of those benchmarks ignore the dividends.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

PPP - For those getting approved, what was the % given to you out of possible total?
We applied (to four banks) and got approval with one bank last week. We were a bit startled to see the approved amount was just 50% of the amount we were expecting (2.5 times average monthly payroll).
Is this a common occurrence? Because we were feeling a bit worried that the PPP money would run out a second time, we accepted the loan for half of what we were expecting. The other 3 banks have kept us updated but none had come through with any 'final approvals'. So, clearly an example of a bird in hand is worth two in the bush...
So, if you received a loan, was it 100% of what you were expecting? 50%? What % did you get?

In today's main talk, several retirement calculators will be chosen and demonstrated, with emphasis on those that are low/no cost, can reproduce reality, have varied estimation models (e.g., Monte Carlo, average, historical returns) and platforms (internet, desktop), and with some basic attention to retirement spending models (e.g., constant real, stages of retirement).
