Re: Mega Backdoor Roth/Roth IRA question
2) My company offers Mega Backdoor Roth with Fidelity. I started contributing to Mega Backdoor from 2022 and till now my contribution is 10K and with balance of 14K(gain of 4K). Fidelity does the after-tax contribution to In Plan Roth conv ersion the same day. Now, if want to withdraw my Megaback door money without penalty and tax before retirement what should I do This may depend on your age. If you are under 59.5, you should roll the Roth 401k (sourced from the in-plan Roth rollovers) into Roth IRA. Obviously, you have to see if your plans allow that first. If allowed, the $10k of contributions will roll into the contributions bucket of your Roth IRA (available immediately) and the earnings will roll into the earnings bucket of your Roth...

Mega Backdoor Roth/Roth IRA question
Hello, 1) I opened Roth IRA in Vanguard brokerage account in 2010 and have contributed 5K every year after that. So if I want to withdraw the only contribution before retirement without penalty, I can withdraw $5K every year after 2015 because of the 5 year rule. Is my understanding correct? 2) My company offers Mega Backdoor Roth with Fidelity. Options for T-bills in Vanguard
Hello,
I am based in California and I buy T-bills from Vanguard for 1/2/3 months frequently which are giving me approximately 5.3% interest. Also, I do not have to pay State tax.
However, I need to buy every couple of days as I have created a ladder. Is there any ETF/Mutual Fund in Vanguard where I can just invest and it gives me approximately 5.3% of interest and I do not need to pay State Tax. I just want put money and forget about it.
I know the Vanguard Money Market gives around 5.2% interest rate but I will need to pay State Tax on that.
Thanks,

Anything special to see in Denver?
Hi,
I am planning to visit Rocky Mountain National Park in Summer. Planning to spend 2-3 nights in the park. However, i will be flying to Denver. Is there anything to see in Denver for me to spend 1-2 nights in Denver or should I just visit the National park and leave Denver.
FYI - I have 2 kids 11 and 13 and not interested in museums or breweries.
Any suggestions are appreciated?

Driving from Toronto to Buffalo
Hi,
I am planning a trip in summer where I will be driving from NY to Toronto 2 days. On Day 1 in Toronto will do Niagara falls and Day 2 CN Tower. However, on Day 3 my flight is from Buffalo so I will be driving from Toronto to Buffalo.
On Day 2, once I am done with CN Tower, I will be driving to Buffalo and stay 1 night in Buffalo for my 1 pm flight (will be going via Peace Bridge)
However, how much time does it take at immigration at US border. Just curious am thinking of driving from Toronto to Buffalo on Day 3 early morning for my 1 pm flight.
If anyone has used Peace bridge, let me know your recommendations.

Re: More info on reason Chase bus. rejected my credit limit increase
Typically with small biz cards, including Chase you personally guarantee them as you give your personal social security number. They want to see a full relationship with them to get their best rates and high credit lines. If you don't have any or only minimal deposit accounts, no brokerage accounts then all you are is a liability to them and they may not give you the credit lines you are seeking. Open up a checking account and/or a self-directed brokerage account and put some ETFs in them or buy some Tbills. Let that cycle for a few months and reapply. Plus this isn't a good time right now with the M2 money supply shrink for the first time in decades and banks aren't lending or are restricting or cutting back credit lines. If you want high...

More info on reason Chase bus. rejected my credit limit increase
Hello,
I have Chase personal credit cards since last 10-15 years. Currently also, I have Sapphire/Freedom/Southwest with credit limit of $15000 in each of the card.
I applied for my first business card recently which got approved but I got credit limit of just $3000. First, I asked them to transfer my credit limit from personal to business card but they said that is not possible so I asked to increase by credit limit. However, it got denied and got the email saying the reason it got denied.
It said "Insufficient or no balance in Chase deposit and/or investment accounts"
What does this mean? Is this because my credit in business account in not much?
If anyone can help explain.
Thanks,

Re: Visiting New York..things to do near Times Square
We did a family trip (two adults, two college kids) last June to NY, and loved it! The subway is awesome, prefund tickets or buy a one week pass (check their website for pricing). I planned the outings, 2 per day, based on geography, plus one show every other night. Made a list of everything we wanted to see, marked up a map with the locations, and then bought tickets for each day. Note that some museums are closed one day each week, so check their schedules before you buy tickets. Day 1: Empire State building, Grand central terminal (half day) Day 2: Lady Liberty, Ellis Island, Ferry, Trinity Church Day 3: 9/11 Memorial, Brooklyn bridge Day 4: Central Park, Metropolitan Museum or American Museum Nat history Day 5 Morgan Library, New York ...

Hi,
I have two AirTags in my two separate car keys. I put around a month back. Today, suddenly some sound came in one of them when the keys was in the house. When I checked the AirTag Sound guide, the noise was for unknown AirTag moving with me. I tried to bring the car keys near my phone but nothing popped on the phone.
Anyone know what needs to be done or to check why the sound came?

Question on buying T-Bills from Vanguard
Hello, I do not have funds in my money market fund of Vanguard and I want to buy T-bills directly from my bank account which is connected in my Vanguard account. I do buy mutual funds directly from my bank account but I am not sure if that is the issue for T-Bills I do the following: What we offer -> Bonds -> Get Started Now it shows be couple of accounts to be select, out of which I select "Brokerage Account" where the balance is zero. Below it says "You don’t have any bonds or CDs in this account." After selecting the Brokerage account, if I select "Continue", there is no error message but just blank page shows up. I tried to call Vanguard but there wait time is more than an hour. Am I doing something wrong?

Got it. So if put $500 to buy T-Bills, it will debit $490 (assuming some random rate) from my bank account and then at the end of 4 weeks, I will be credited $500 in my bank account. Is my assumption correct?Geologist wrote: ↑Wed Mar 08, 2023 6:44 pm If you are buying T-bills*, you put in the value you want at maturity (for you, $500 apparently). The auction determines what the discount is and TreasuryDirect will debit your bank account for the correct discounted value.
As I've said before, the auction tomorrow will likely not have a yield and discount exactly identical to last week's value. That's why it is an auction.
*This is the same as for any other kind of Treasury (notes or bonds) at Treasury Direct.

Re: First time buying T-Bills from Treasury Direct
No, that's not how it works. I don't believe you can buy $500 of a T-Bill at auction as the nominal face value is $1000 minimum. If you somehow did pay $500 for a T-Bill, you would be getting a very high interest rate. In the link that you posted yourself, if you click on the CUSIP, it gives the price: 99.643 That, however, as I mentioned in my first post, is the price for last week's bill. First time buying T-Bills from Treasury Direct
Hello,
If I buy T-Bills from Treasury direct for 4 weeks, should I assume I should be getting below interest which is 4.683%
https://www.treasurydirect.gov/auctions ... a-results/
So If I buy T-bill for $500 for 4 weeks, should I expect return of $523.19 (500*4.633%).
Also, will this amount will be directly deposited in my bank account at the end of 4 weeks?
Just want to clarify before I buy T-Bills.

Hi,
I am planning to cover Big Island and Kauai in one trip. Has anyone done this before? If yes, can you help me in covering the major places. I am planning 4 days for each island during December. Not much into hiking but small hikes are okay as have kids of age 12-14.
If anyone has similar itinerary, would be great.

Hello,
I am planning to get the Capital One Venture card to get 75000 miles. If anyone has this card, can you explain if I do not use the miles, how can I redeem the miles. For 75000 miles, can I get gift cards for $750? I read that I can encash the miles but then it will be reduced to 0.5 center per mile.
Appreciate if anyone is using this card, can give some inputs.
I am planning to get the Capital One Venture card to get 75000 miles. If anyone has this card, can you explain if I do not use the miles, how can I redeem the miles. HomeStretch wrote: ↑Wed Feb 01, 2023 12:46 pm OP, what do you mean by ‘the door won’t open’?
Do you hear the door opener’s motor/drive making noise and the door trying to go up? Or when you push the button do you hear/see nothing (totally dead)?
Door will not open from the remote nor by punching the code from outside. If I click the button from inside the garage it opens. This only happens in the morning when I try to open the garage. Very strange as it works normally during the day

Garage Door opening issue
Hello,
I am facing unique situation with my garage door. Every morning when I try to open my garage door from my car it does not open. Even if I punch my code from outside, it does not open. I stay in Bay area where weather is not that chilly and it only happens in the morning for first or second opening (though opening garage door should not be connected with weather)
After that, it easily opens in the day. I tried to change my garage openener remote, changed the batteries but still the same issue when I try open first time in the morning.
Even if I call a garage door person, I will not be able to simulate this as it will open during the day.
Any experts here who can suggest something?

Hello,
Can you share ideas for return gift to be given in 10 year old boy's party? Not too costly but average price.

Re: Regarding TSA pre-check
PreCheck is essential if you fly at least a few times per year! Get the fee comped with various credit cards. A few random thoughts: If you travel internationally, Global Entry gets you PreCheck but the application process is more cumbersome. The mobile passport control app actually is a good alternative if you are traveling into an airport that uses it. On a recent trip to JFK over the holidays, the MPC line was just as short as the Global entry line. With kids, PreCheck is a lifesaver as no one has to take their shoes off and ipads and computers can stay in the bags. Kids don't need their own membership when traveling with an adult with PreCheck. A caveat is that children between 13-17 must have PreCheck printed on their boarding pass, s...

Anyone using AT&T prepaid service
Hello,
My AT&T bill is increasing with number of lines. I am planning to switch to ATT prepaid service for 15 gb plan. The ATT person told me that prepaid customers get lower priority when it comes to data.
Does anyone face any such issues? Just want to check with before switching to prepaid services.
Thanks,

Re: Southwest Companion pass boarding question
Which means..I need to just check-in my Confirmation number and companion pass will get the sequential number automatically. I don't needs to check in the companion confirmation number? Is that my correct understanding?workingfornow wrote: ↑Tue Dec 06, 2022 5:36 pm Yes, but the main ticket holder needs to check in first. They won’t let the person traveling on the companion pass check in until that is done. We always receive sequential boarding numbers, unless the main ticket holder pays for upgraded boarding and the companion does not.

Southwest Companion pass boarding question
Hello,
I have companion pass for Southwest. When I booked the flight, I got 2 Confirmation numbers - one for my kids/myself and other for my wife who is the companion.
Now when I check-in 24 hours before the flight, do I need to check-in just my confirmation number and wife (companion pass) will also get checked-in or I have to do separately with her confirmation number.
Anyone who used companion pass recently..please let me know

Orlando Universal Studio question
Hello,
I have been to Universal Studio in LA and it has just one ticket. For Universal Studio, Orlando, I see there are 2 parks
1) Universal Studio
2) Island of Adventure
Got confused as to what park to go. Is there anything I need to check before going to either of the park as I have one day to spend in any of the park.

Can you tell me where did you stay at Grand Teton?fasteddie911 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 28, 2022 11:37 am We did a similar trip with similar goals. Since the park is a figure 8, we did one loop on day 2 and the other loop on day 3. It felt like enough time for us. Day 4 we drove down to Grand Teton to explore, hung out around Jackson (which I would recommend) and spent the night there. We did horseback riding and I think they do rafting trips too. On the way back to SLC we took 89, which I thought was more scenic than I15, and stopped by Bear Lake for a raspberry shake.

where to buy FIFA world cup to watch in USA
Hello,
I bought the package in Peacock App but the matches are being shown with Spanish commentary. I do not see the FIFA on Espn also.
Can anyone tell me where can I buy the package to see FIFA world cup in English? I do not have any cable and would rely on any other website from where I can buy the package.

Question regarding Chase Sapphire Reserve Card
Hello,
I am planning to apply for Chase Sapphire Reserve Card which charges $550 yearly fees but give $300 travel credit. I have heard that as the credit is from Jan to Dec you can actually get $300 Annual Credit twice meaning one before Jan and one after Jan.
Any idea how that will work if I order the card now. Do I need to just buy SouthWest gift card before Dec and and something after Jan, 2023 for another round of credit.
If anyone has the card, could explain me.

Re: Chai tea bags
Try Rishi Masal Chai. It is all organic. It is my current favorite. You can get from Target or Whole foods.is50xenough wrote: ↑Fri Oct 28, 2022 3:26 pm Just a quick thanks to all who have replied. These are all awesome suggestions much info here!
As a reply to those who talked about chai from many parts of the world, I was drinking at a coffee/tea place in Palo Alto. Some of the tastiest I have ever had. When I asked the "barista (tea-ista?) about their tea, he commented that the owners buy Lebanese Chai which he thought was very different than that from India. Who knew chai was such a large and complex topic.....
Again, all answers appreciated and glad to see that others appear to be chai lovers as well.
Between, which store in Palo Alto you said the chai was great?

Orlando - Gatorland
Hello,
I am planning to spend 3 days in Orlando. I am not interested in any of the theme parks. Apart from theme park, want to check if Gatorland is attractive to 11/13 year old kids. Also, thinking of Airboat ride to see Gators in Kissimmee.
What other things can be done apart from theme park in Orlando

Re: Maui - things to do for 6 day trip
Hello Compound, Thanks for the tip of reserving at Wai’anapanapa state beach (was not aware). If I start my Road to Hana trip at 10AM, what time slot should I pick as it says, I need to leave when my time slot ends. Would be helpful, if you can provide more info on this. Went recently. Kids of similar age to yours. Road to Hana was amazing. Some stops we loved were: 1. Wai’anapanapa state beach (Black sand beach). Reservations in advance required. Reservations are for specific time slots and sell out; make sure to secure them well before you travel. The hiking is wonderful. 2. Red sand beach is stellar. The hike there can be a bit tricky, but the payoff is fantastic. 3. Pipiwai trail was planned but we didn’t make it there. The kids had so ...
