Google will not provide precise details about the origin of the training data used by the language model underlying Bard. But they have shared numbers on the types of sources and by far the largest source, at a full 50% of the training corpus, is from forum sites.Bit surprised that Bard would be using it

They are already scraping the site, or perhaps more accurately, are trained with data that has been scraped from the site. I've tested both chatGPT and Bard and the responses use phrases that clearly come from the wiki and the forum.
There's not much, if anything, we can do about it. Our situation is different from Reddit or Twitter in that we have no background APIs that allow third parties to extract data. All we provide is the web interface you are looking at. There's no way to stop anyone who wants it badly enough from downloading the site's contents one page at a time.

I'd like to suggest you make the page more generic. I understand the "AI Generated Material (e.g. ChatGPT)" is a little clunky, but I suspect ChatGPT's current dominance in mindshare will be short-lived. Also note the use of "material" rather than "text" because AI generated images and video are already a thing.LadyGeek wrote: ↑Mon Mar 27, 2023 1:02 pm I have created a draft page in the wiki. Posting AI Generated Materials (e.g. ChatGPT) - allowed, but must be sourced
I want to remind everyone of our forum policy on Quoting external material . Please limit quotations and reproductions of external materials to the minimum necessary to make your point. You should also provide the source and, where possible, a link to the original work. This also applies to AI generated materials. If you wish to use AI generated text, images, etc. for some reason, you must explicitly state what part of your post is AI generated, must state the website or app from which you obtained it AND must state the search terms or phrase you used to generate the materials. The one partial exception is that for trivial uses where no advice is given - for example, generating an illustrative haiku - it is enough to merely state that the t...

Where do you live? Conroe, Tx First thing that comes to mind is NASA Johnson Space Center - https://spacecenter.org/visitor-information/ Next, Waco Mammoth National Monument Is about 3 hours away. IMO, the National Monuments are really underutilized, they are run by the National Park Service and thus normally have excellent interpretive centers and the fossil ones often have hands on activities. Since they only get a fraction of the traffic of the National Parks, the staff has a lot more time to interact with interested visitors. I'd call ahead and see what they can do for you on a visit. More locally, take a look at what your state and county have to offer. For example, last weekend I took my daughter (who is also 9) on a nature walk in o...

Memorization should come only after understanding, not serve as a replacement for it. Forcing memorization too early results in a lifelong dislike for math for many kids. it can also cover up a deeper lack of understanding that will cause problems later.

The second link states it's for ages 6-13. It also assumes they can read. I sent my kids to a Waldorf preschool and kindergarten because I feel that imagination and outdoor play is far more developmentally appropriate at that age.
It did mean that I had to teach them to read in the summer before 1st grade (they already knew the letters from school). But it wasn't actually that hard and was kind of fun. If you are in that situation, "Go Dog. Go!" is invaluable.

I used shiny pebbles or legos or whatever was on hand that were roughly the same size and easy to handle. The point was to get them to understand that numbers are representations of groups of objects and, more importantly, to show those numbers can be split up and combined in many ways. For example 7 is also 6 and 1, and 5 and 2, and 1 and 1 and 1 and 1 and 1 and 1 and 1.

Re: How to invest in Web 3.0/Blockchain (NOT cryptocurrencies)
Blockchain is a category of software, like database or spreadsheet software. The question essentially boils down to, "Who will be the Oracle of blockchain?" or Microsoft of blockchain to the extent you believe that Excel drives its profits. I suspect the answer will be, "No one." For one thing, blockchain by its nature must be open source software. Oracle is still around because it is proprietary software and it became widely adopted by large organizations before there were acceptable open source alternatives and those orgs are loathe to tamper with important computing infrastructure stuff that works. But everyone else uses open source databases like the PostgreSQL that underlies this forum. We pay nothing for the softwa...

Re: Toto washlet/bidet seat
I have a bidet toilet seat that has many features but it was an add on to an older Kohler toilet. Is the Toto washlet an add on? They make toilets with it built in. If you got the built in kind I wondered if the bidet part broke if you'd be facing a very expensive replacement. My add on Bidet was around $400. I wish I had outlets behind more of our toilets. I had to have one put in where it was easiest to run. The other bathrooms would be trickier (aka more expensive, more drywall repair and painting work). Toto washlets are add ons. They attach using the standard toilet seat bolt holes and come with a splitter to get the necessary water from the cold water line that feeds the tank. The advantage to using a compatible Toto toilet is there'...

I am trying to be Google-free, so I like this change. (I realize that's an impossible task, but every little bit helps.) Not using google search, and even not having google accounts, avoids only a small fraction of your data that gets reported to google. Nearly every webpage you go to (but not our site) includes tracking bugs to various google subsidiaries like doubleclick. It is possible to filter these out, but to be completely effective, it needs to be done at the DNS query level by adding filters to your router. You can also do it through a combination of editing your hosts file and configuring your browser to actually use the hosts file. Or you could filter it at the browser level by using a browser that still supports full filtering ...

Or you can use our internal search engine via the little gear icon or go to https://www.bogleheads.org/forum/search.php . However, this doesn't do relevance ranking so is not particularly useful for generic searches. The phpBB search is however fabulous when you know some parameters, like you want to look at posts that mention a specific topic in the first post or you want to look for posts by a specific user in a specific forum on a specific topic. We got an S500e and an S550e for our 2 bathrooms in mid-2019 after my wife tried one out when visiting a friend's house. No problems at all and the whole family loves them.
I don't like the heated seat, but my wife and daughter do. We compromise by leaving it in the lowest setting on both toilets except in the summer where it's off. I don't notice any delay in getting heated water.

We use Google because it's my experience that they give better search results than the alternatives. Also, we can see how often the various search engines spider the forum and Google is by far the most active which means they incorporate new posts typically within a few minutes. Duckduckgo is among the least active of the major search engines, it can take days for new posts to get incorporated into results there. FWIW, I keep two browsers open. If these people knew how to get rich by investing, they’d be doing that. They wouldn’t waste their time trying to sell you a system or newsletter. I have an acquaintance who has done exactly this. He graduated from CalTech, got interested in algorithmic trading in the 90s, worked for a big Wall Street firm making hundreds of thousands and moved to Chicago to be closer to the options markets and started his own firm where he now makes millions. I have enough math knowledge to understand some of what he is doing, but it's not making me any money because actually executing his strategies requires a couple dozen full-time programmers and hundreds of thousands of dollars a year in server and telco costs. I've owned both Civics and 3-series. Don't get the BMW. You want a reliable car, not something that is going to give you a ton of headaches. The ongoing costs are going to be much higher for the BMW. Your warranty isn't going to cover consumables like brake pads and tires and batteries, the latter two cost at least double what they do for the Civic and all are going to need to be replaced 5 years sooner.
And since it's a bottom spec engine with xdrive (thus heavy and no RWD shenanigans), it's not even more fun to drive than a Civic.

Because of the kids, I'll strongly recommend any Caribbean/Cancun/Belize all-inclusive (AI) with a beach and pools and decent ratings. I'd look for options with a nonstop flight and easy transfers to the resort. I took my kids to an AI in Jamaica when Southwest added a nonstop from Chicago and it worked out great. It's still their favorite vacation ever. We went to Cancun this spring at a non-AI (the resort stay was a gift). They enjoyed the pools and beach, but it was a pain in the butt dealing with buses and taxis to get groceries and meals. San Diego is great, but it won't necessarily be that warm and it will definitely be too cold to hang out on the beach or swim in the ocean. Which means you will need to rent a car to do outings and fi...

This is at least the third thread you've posted this week on bond purchases. If you haven't already done so, I would suggest stepping back and considering how you want to structure your overall bond allocation and then asking your questions in one place with that information as context.
Also, as a general note, fiddling around with very small percentages of a portfolio is not going to make a noticeable difference in returns.

Re: New EV: Type of Level 2 Charging for Garage?
But is doesn’t address the specific issue that I have regarding plugging directly into a 240V outlet (which I can do with the charger that comes with my vehicle) versus adding a wall box to to the 240V outlet and plugging into the box. If you literally mean wiring a wall box from the wiring supplying your 240V outlet, then there is no advantage in terms of charging times for your vehicle. I am planning to live in the 3Bedroom as this will be my first home. Total mortgage is coming around $6125 per month(mortgage 700k, if 725k then little higher), if I rent 2bedroom which can be around $2000 - 2200 per month. Then my monthly mortgage will come around $4125. If, I decide to rent both anytime later (like 1 yr after) then may be total rent could be 2800+2200 = 5000 approx. This makes no sense to me. Best case is you will be paying $4125/month plus taking on all the headaches of being a landlord and the maintenance costs of a 2-unit building to live in a unit that you estimate would rent for $2800 a month. Rent and save the difference. Your savings will build up much faster than your equity would on a place with a 30 year mortga...
