HSA to HSA transfer question

I wonder if anyone knows the answer to this question. I recently stopped contributing to a self insured HSA that I have through Optum Health Bank. I really liked this account because all my money went to the Vanguard Wellington fund which was an available option and the website is easy to navigate and follow. I recently took a job with a large corporation and they offer health care benefits and also contribute to the existing HSA that they have established with the HDHP insurance company they use. I do know that it is legal to make unlimited transfers, not a yearly rollover, from one HSA plan to another. My question is : Do you know if it is possible to direct the custodian of my new HSA to transfer the money as it gets deducted from my pay...

Re: Help me with this simple math please

Therein lies my confusion, is it even possible to have a simple math calculation to just estimate what the amount would be, and if it is possible, does anyone here know how to do it. I don't, so that is why I ask. Thanks

If I put $100,000 into the Wellesly Admiral fund VWIAX at the beginning of 2015, what would be the % yield in dividends per year? In other words, what could I expect as a return at least for this year for my investment in this fund? Thank you

Re: The Three Fund Portfolio

VBTLX = Vanguard Total Bond Market Index Adm not the international.

I guess my question simply is this, "is it wrong to place this fund in a tax deferred account if I have the space for it"? I would prefer just to use the TFP and not a Target retirement fund. thank you

Regarding expense ratios

I am the custodial manager for the various IRA tax deferred accounts owned by myself and my wife at Vanguard. I would like to convert all we both have to the Three Fund Portfolio by Taylor Larrimore. My question is regarding ER would it be more expensive to put all her money in the TFP and all my money in the TFP or (with her permission of course) just pool all the money as together and use three funds between the two of us ? I hope this question is clear. Thank you

Re: The Three Fund Portfolio

A quick question with hopefully a quick answer.
I have enough money to buy the three fund portfolio in Admiral shares.
I do not have enough money to fill my tax deferred accounts and "spill over" into my taxable account.
Would it still be prudent to just put the VBTLX in the tax deferred account for now or just purchase a Target date Fund and call it a day?

Ok, but irregardless of the specific vehicle (cash,cd,ETF), so the idea is that the Emergency fund should be in a Taxable account for liquidity instead of in a tax deferred account?

So, basically, I will keep my Emergency funds in my Roth, HSA and a small amount in my taxable brokerage account and that should suffice for liquidity purposes.
Now for my taxable account, does the fund VMLTX make sense?

Re: Where to put money for Emergency fund?

Ok, thank you, I read the Wiki

I guess my main question is if I hold all of my emergency funds in my tax advantaged accounts (which I presently do) with short term T-bill, short term Treasury bonds, Money market account and if/when I need to access it--will there be a tax penalty? From what I read, the answer is yes (so this may not be the right place to keep it all). So that being the case, it would be best to still continue to keep the money in my tax advantaged accounts fully funded but maybe to start a "new emergency fund" by adding to my taxable or savings or cds/I-bonds? Does this make sense?

Thank you

Where to put money for Emergency fund?

I have primarily all tax deferred IRA accounts, Roth IRA, Simple IRA, rollover IRA, rollover brokerage, Roth brokerage and an HSA account with Optum Health Bank.
I have a joint brokerage account with my wife that is not tax deferred.
I want to have a liquid emergency fund--which account would allow me access without tax penalties if I need to withdraw?
Which fund would you recommend for the above?

Thank you for your time and advice.

So, let me get this straight then. It would be more prudent to keep all emergency funds in a taxable or Roth account simply due to the fact that I am under 59.5 and would have to pay penalties upon withdrawal from a tax advantaged account?

Simple IRA question

I manage the Simple IRA for my business, just added an employee on to it (small business) and have a question about matching.
The rules say I am to match up to 3% of employee's salary. My question is, what if she just wants $10 taken out of each paycheck instead of my other employee who has $75 deducted each paycheck, do I have to match the same amount for each employee? Assume they both make the same salary and 3% would be $40 a paycheck. Thanks

Re: Secondary market bond buying

I have to buy from a brokerage like Vanguard because these will be going into a tax deferred acount
The recommendation from the Permanent Portfolio {PP} is to redeem some 30 yr Treasuries at the 10 year mark and buy new 30 yr Treasuries. I am wondering though if I hold these in a tax deferred brokerage account and sell some on the secondary market through Vanguard, how it will be handled from a tax perspective?

Secondary market bond buying

Hello

I would like to buy bonds or bills or notes on the secondary market from Vanguard and I am a Voyager client. I didn't pull the trigger yet and will call them when they open next week. I was just wondering if someone can answer my question here, first:

Q. The Vanguard order form shows a $100 redemption fee, what is this? Does this mean that when I want to sell my 30 year Treasury bond that it will cost me $100? If anyone has been through this process with Vanguard please let me know.. Thank you
By the way, it is the same redemption fee for Notes or Bills and I want to do this to for my Cash portion, but just want to be sure.

Re: Harry Browne’s Permanent Portfolio

Ok, I think I am going to do the PP as suggested by Craig and MTex and of course Mr. Browne himself.
I am exhausted from all the reading I have done, but am glad I did it now.

Question 1

For the 25% bond portion is there any reason to choose VUSTX over TLT strategically. Presently I own both.
For the 25% stock portion is there any reason why VTI is a better option than VT
For the 25% cash portion would a split of BIL and SHY be wise if I want to "invest a little" over my emergency fund
For the 25% gold portion does a split of IAU/SGOL/GLD/GTU offer any advantages

Question 2

Would you recommend "all in now" or litlle by little over time?

Thank you

Two theory questions, please?

Question 1

Assume I hold 100 shares of VUSTX.

1. Assume the value of the fund decreased by 50%, when the dividend pays out, does it pay on all 100 shares, or just the 50%?

2. If my new portfolio allocation calls for just the amount that is now in the negative to be my actual allocation, do I just keep and hold this lost amount of shares and wait it out or sell new shares bringing the new positive amount equal to what was lost. Hopefully someone understands what I am asking.

Thank you as always for the assistance.
