I have had the PR since 2021, the meter on the website that shows you how much of your credit you have used, usually doesn't reset until mid-January.
I just buy American Airlines eGift Cards in $100 increments. They have coded as an incidental credit, don't expire and are just a code you can give to friends/family to use.

Re: Bank of America/Merrill Edge - Preferred Rewards
Just an FYI. I know a lot of people here steer clear of the PR card because of the $95 annual fee, which can be offset by travel incidentals and Global Entry every for years. Some people just can't use them. Toward the end of last year, I still had $88.40 of travel credit unused. After remembering reading a while ago that Southwest tickets under $100 count toward the travel credit, I went ahead and booked an $88 ticket to somewhere I did NOT plan on going. Then, after it settled in the new year and I got my travel credit, I canceled the original flight and applied the $ to a flight for the end of next month I will use. So...if you fly Southwest you can pull this maneuver if you don't have other ways of using the travel credit. Not sure if ...

However, when I showed them barcode from email, those steps were not needed. So I assume there is a difference between barcode in email v/s barcode generated by phone. But there is no bar code in the email :confused . At the bottom of the email there is a link that goes to the barcode: https://imgur.com/NPGo8QY.png The "access card now" takes you to a page with the barcode at: merchant.wgiftcard.com/... at the top of that page is a button to print the card, which allows it to be saved on the phone as a PDF. @jeffyscott, sorry for the confusion. You are correct, there is no barcode in email. When I was referring to it, I was actually talking about the barcode shown on merchant.wgiftcard.com. Now, if that doesn't work easily based ...

But that's what I have been using all along. There's actually no barcode in the email, itself. There's a link in the email and from the link you can "print" and then save the pdf. So that is exactly what I have used, a saved pdf on the phone. It worked fine the one time that I had a cashier that knew how to do it. I dont think BoA issues new MC CCRs anymore. All 4 of my CCRs are Visas. I never saw an option for a MC version. Ah, I had forgotten the details of the previous discussion in this thread. Warehouse clubs offer 2x (3.50% back with 75% bonus), while online category offers 3x points (5.25% back). Before with lower interest rates and physical cards, I kept larger balances on the physical "shop" cards. Now I buy smaller denomination digital ones, that are delivered faster, and I don't have as much float and the risk of loss is less. I'm not (yet) on the PR bandwagon, but I decided to try the digital shop cards these past few months, in order to get 5% cash back from Discover. From what I’m reading here it seems smarter to have the physical card in case stuff is refunded so they could put it back to that card. I am not certain how that would work with an E-gift card.

A strategy to increase your cash back from Costco is to purchase Costco gifts online, which actually count as "online purchases", and give you a base of 3% on the Customized Cash Rewards cards (so long as you set your 3% category to online). You have to wait to receive the gift card in the mail, but then you can use that in-store. Costco now offers electronic gift cards. These can be used easily at self-checkout, with the touchscreen option to pay with the electronic card. They can also be used at regular checkout, but some cashiers may be unfamiliar with how to use them and need to ask for help. They usually arrive within an hour for me, though I've had at least one purchase delayed longer. Thanks for sharing Lyrrad, good to kno...

Our payment due shows various fees like facility fee, document fee, association fee, student union fee etc. Are all these fees eligible along with tuition? These fees can be a bit of a gray area. Most other mandatory expenses are generally agreed that they are covered. However, even there I have seen some argue that various fees, for example, sports fees, transportation fees and on campus health clinic fees, are not covered. Is there an easier way to keep track of $2500 cap for boa ccr than checking statements. I don't want to go over that of course and a visual bar chart or something would be amazing if they had it. You can go under the Expense Analysis section and it'll show you any date range you want. Assuming you only use the CCR for 2% and 3% categories, then the total will tell you exactly how much you have left to hit $2500. On the top menubar, click on Tools and Investing -> Budget (this brings you to the "My Financial Picture" page) From the 2nd menubar, click on Budget -> Expense/Income Analysis (this brings up the "Expense Analysis" page) Change first dropdown to be your CCR card Change second dropdown to be "Custom Dates&q...

Very annoyed with Vanguard at the moment.xenial wrote: ↑Wed May 18, 2022 5:38 pm I'm resurrecting this thread from last year. Yesterday (5/17/22) and today I've failed to receive logon security codes via Google Voice. The problem coincides with a change in appearance of Vanguard's security code entry page, so I'm guessing the issue is with Vanguard rather than Google.
Anyone else notice this, or is it just me?

Re: CD discussion thread
Ally just sent an email about 2% for 20 month CD. I assume this is not a targeted offer since I see it on Ally's website here https://www.ally.com/go/bank/20m-select ... L400002574

I agree, I don't think 5.25% works on tax/insurance payments as per the T&C. I use PR card and get 2.6x% and be happy with that.sailaway wrote: ↑Fri Apr 22, 2022 2:36 pmIt shouldn't, taxes and government fees are an explicitly excluded category. Some folks have work arounds.silvergga wrote: ↑Fri Apr 22, 2022 2:30 pm Anyone tried to pay the IRS with the preferred rewards cards? Does it qualify for "online" and the 5.25% cashback?

I just used the one that gives me 2.xx% on everything. It slightly beat the fees I was charged and mine currently has a 0% APR through the end of the year so a few things are on there right now to manage cash flow over the next few months.

Both types seem to be widely accepted, is there specific advantage for either type of card?anon_investor wrote: ↑Thu Apr 21, 2022 8:30 pmAre the MLB ones Master Cards or Visa? Are the replacements the same card type?jrbdmb wrote: ↑Thu Apr 21, 2022 1:19 pm I've recently received a replacement for one of my BoA MLB cards (I curerntly have two of them). I get why they had to send a replacement card since their relationship with MLB has expired. But since my current MLB cards have a few years left on them before expiration do I really need to activate the new one now (and render the old MLB ones inactive) or can I keep using the MLB cards until they expire?

Re: After tax 401K and in plan Roth Rollover (IRR) TurboTax
When I get a 1099-R for the after tax 401K contribution which shows code "G" and specifically says "zero taxable", why does TurboTax adds that to my income, albeit it does say that it is NOT taxed. That income was already included in my W2, so why does it add it again? For example, if my 2021 taxable W2 income was $100K and I put $31K from that in to after-tax 401K and did instant IRR, TurboTax tells me that my total 2021 income was $131K  I have use TT for last few years along with After-tax + IRR and never saw the amount from 1099-R added to income. The income breakup shows the income if any reported on 1099-R box 2a but not the amount in box 1. I am guessing you probably need to revisit some section in TT in or...

Got it, thanks masrepus.masrepus wrote: ↑Thu Feb 17, 2022 6:55 pmNo fees. Been transferring whenever I get over 1000.00 in HE, about every 8 weeks. Always leave at least 25.00 so the account is left open.
I keep the account since it is tied to the paycheck and you get the full tax benefit. I move the money to avoid the fees that HE charges. Could transfer more often, but every 8 weeks is good.

Re: HSA transfer: Health Equity to Fidelity
All those who are doing it frequently, is HealthEquity charging you any fees every time? And are you doing it on periodic basis to basically keep employer provided HE account but then get funds out to Fidelity for longer term?

Re: HSA transfer: Health Equity to Fidelity
I was about to post my experience. DW decided to transfer and asked Fidelity to pull from HE on Jan 3rd or 5th. Their estimate for completion was 10 Feb, yeah month+. It actually transferred on 14 Feb and that too after HE kept $25 as account closure fee. With this experience, I wouldn't recommend this method. Other methods discussed earlier are better IMHO.

Re: Fidelity Youth Account
Just updating this thread. I opened one of these accounts for my 14 year old last year. He uses it purely as a cash management account with debit card. Plan to open another for my 12 year old as soon as he turns 13 in August. Today I received an email from Fidelity stating they are depositing $50 in all Youth Accounts no strings attached to save, spend, or invest. " We just want to help jumpstart their financial learning." Definitely some savvy marketing going on. My son loves the account and I would not be surprised if he transfers his custodial accounts to Fidelity as soon as he is of age. If Fidelity is trying to make me feel like a superior parent, it is working! Thanks for posting @aristotelian. I checked after reading messa...

Re: Anyone planning to do a Backdoor Roth and continue After Tax Contributions for Mega Backdoor
I prefer Roth IRA over Roth 401K for the reasons listed above!sailaway wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 11:21 am
Since this is a Roth IRA, the conversions are available tax and penalty free after five tax years. If you always convert in a way that there is no tax due at conversion, then those conversions may be available even sooner. Even if you did convert some earnings, the penalty would only be due on those earnings prior to 59.5, not the whole conversion.
Thanks for starting this thread OP, I was wondering about MBD and good to see this discussion.
