I went church today and heard everything I needed to hear. I believe I’m headed in the right direction. Still am ignorant and somewhat anxious about the stock market and then I read this. A very good day. Peace be with you. Thank you

The federal tax fund pays no interest. Very difficult to transfer between the two. The prime pays something like.065. They say the tax fund is mandated to protect the one dollar value of mmf. Big benefit for vanguard.

Re: Bond fund question
Thanks for the suggestion. Vwiux is vanguard tax exempt and vmlux is vanguard limited term tax exempt. Here is the question again. Hi, I have been using vwiux and vmlux in taxable and vtabx in sep Ira. Didn't know if you would advise. I have been in these funds for several years and most recently have watched a 63k paper gain completely disappear with the crash. I had been concerned and was thinking about selling before the correction but decided to see it through. Any thoughts and feedback on these funds would be appreciated. The third fund vtabx has a 27 k gain and didn't lose anything yet. Should I continue to hold or what about these funds. I can be more comprehensive later. Thanks for any feedback. I'm in retirement and a little nervous.

I was in Schwab for years and gradually was buying Vanguard. I'm all in Vanguard now to avoid the confusion. I own vwiux for about 2 years and have a sizable capital gain. Very pleased with that move. The planner at Vanguard recommended and has been very helpful. I had a meeting last week scheduled for a half hour. It ran over an hour.

Re: Using TLT to hedge
Thanks for the comments. I'm holding 200 shares and they are up nicely. I was reading on Seeking Alpha that they should still do ok when rates start to go up. The articles are written by contributors so i don't use them for any real guidance. I am reading Tony Robbins Money: Master the game. I think it's a great book and he interviews some really interesting people. Jack Bogle being one. I think his intention is to bring investors to a more level playing field and show how to be more like the smart money guys. I decided to forget trading and other than a few stocks and commodities I'm index funds. Just curious if the thinking is that TLT is a long term hold. Thanks again

You should offer an opinion to him. It is your business and shows you care. Your post is poorly written and doesn't clearly reflect your concerns. if you just sit back and he jumps off a bridge you would feel worse. At least you tried.

Thanks. I'm 19% stocks and 70% bonds. I'm old and work and save. Tried to lose everything in 2000 and with bogle heads I moved from from schwab to vanguard for A version of Taylor's 3 fund portfolio. I think I still feel fear a bit but not too damaged.Politics are very reassuring either. Not to open that up. So TLT isnt a big % just thought it was a conservative way add a little protection

Good question. I consider it like insurance on a small level. Just a different version of holding bonds I was thinking. I'm all in with vanguard index funds. Tot intermediate muni bond fund, tot international, tot stk market,70/30 based on age. Looking for something that goes the opposite way of the falling knife. I'm sure I don't know, reason for question. Thank you

Trust account
Is it possible to set up a trust account with Vanguard as the trustee or Co-trustee to manage my funds and their distrubution to heirs. Would this be advisable? I want to leave everything to my daughters but in a controlled way so I can be assured the bulk of it goes to them. I would like something like a percentage of the interest of the assets be distributed with the daughters maintaining possession of the accounts and principle. Any knowledge of this would be appreciated.

Had to learn to reframe my thinking and I get no support here for fearful greedy thinking. Forever grateful as I don't know what i'm up and could care less.

Re: How can they not know where the MF Global money went?
The same week they were collasping a agent named Joe Savage from MF Global called me to invest with the firm. He said he was a trader and didn't normally make these calls but special circumstances motivated him to offer a great opportunity. I never bit, but he started sending me daily information for about a week. I emailed him asked if his company were collasping. Never heard from him again and then the flood gates opened and it was obvious. I never usually consider anything like that and never have, just want to say he was good, very good. It can get scary out there if your not on guard. If your looking for the money, call Joe Savage

Re: Vanguard investment advisor/what to expect?
I did what your doing. I found myself at Schwab with some Vanguard funds. Then I was spending more time on this site with reading feedback that seemed to endorse Vanguard indexing passive investing. I talked with a Vanguard planner and worked with him several times at no charge, although that amount of money wouldn't have deterred me. Seemed like a natural next step for me since I was already in Vanguard although at another brokerage. You can transfer everything in kind and open a brokerage account and do anything that you want. I went with the planners advice and moved everthing basically into Vangurard funds. I hold some ibonds but I never looked back. Schwab I thought was more geared to the active investor and ipo's. They have a lot to o...

I have been researching Pimco. I find funds that are hedged and unhedged to the us dollar. I'm not sure what that means. I feel a need to diversify outside the United States and this seems a good way to go. I thank you for your information. The fund PFUIX is rated 5 stars from Morningstar rating system. I would appreciate any thoughts on hedged and unhedged to the dollar.

I am feeling a need to diversify somewhat from the Vanguard Total Bond and Tips fund. I was doing a little research and I wondered if there was a thread or feedback on using Pimco to get Foreign exposure. I think the U.S. is living on past performance and I believe we are headed in the wrong direction. 75 % of my portfolio is in Total bnd fund and Tips fund. I don't mind some extra fees for diversification.

Both can work
I used to resent paying taxes and then I decided to put everything back into the business to avoid paying taxes. I bought a building, raised pays, bought myself better auto's and trucks. Bottom line. I ended with a bigger pie, which was a revelation for me. Instead of being cheap and self serving I learned a big lesson.A bigger slice of the pie was the wrong focus for me. Nothing cheap or frugal about this approach but it sure worked for me. Bottom line is keep it positive and to thine own self be true. Same with material things. It only matters what it means to you. Are you trying to feel better about yourself or do you just enjoy fine things.

Sorry about that. I have two daughters and 4 Grandkids. I was looking to use the ssn's to buy beyond my limit. If nothing catastropic happens I intend to use the money to fund their education. They are from 4 to 8 years old. I also use my wife's ssn and was thinking about my daughters. For simplicity I want to set my Grandchildren up with educational money. My daughter expressed concern that with them being co owners on I bonds it may affect their ability to obtain financial aid should they need to. Hope this is a little more understandable. Thank you

Thanks for the responses. That's the piece I was missing. I can buy paper bonds as a co owner and keep posession of the bond. If I do it on TD than I will need to open an account for them. I'm not quite that generous yet, although I will use them towards their future educational needs. I think I got it. Thanks again

I bought my limit of bonds and I want to purchase more in other family members ssn. I understand from Mel that I can use the registry on TD and set up my name and their name, example bob or joan, using their ssn. Can I also buy them somehow with my TD account or do I need to also put it into their account? I guess I am confusing the obvious. Thanks for any help.[/quote]

I am in VEUSX and VTIAX I am thinking there is overlap here and thinking I should sell off the veusx especially since it has the highest volitility rating on the vanguard site. The planner never brought that up. Plus its had a great run and a correction has to be coming. But my biggest concern is the overlap. I'm thinking why not sell high for once. What would you do?
