Annuity in an IRA distribution

I have a variable annuity in my IRA. It has guaranteed withdrawal benefits. I am 67 and the last three years I have made the withdrawal and used the proceeds to help pay living expenses. For the next few years I will have income from another source that I must take, and will not need all the proceed...

Re: Kids Inheriting an Annuity

Well, I've decided what to do and wanted to close the loop. Thanks to all for their input. It was very helpful. Recall that my sister is (now) 64 and has been diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's disease. She has never married and has no children. Her only relatives are me and my 3 children, who a...

Re: Kids Inheriting an Annuity

Thanks for all the input. I've been doing some more research on this. To summarize, my 63 year old sister, whose only relative is me and my kids has Alzheimers. I manage her affairs for her. She has LTC insurance through the Federal Long Term Insurance Program with a lifetime benefit of over $500,00...

Re: Maxed out on IRA/401K - What now?

Thanks for all the great feed back! As additional info - no kids, but they plan to start a family in the next 1-2 years. No house. My SIL had one in Michigan which he was able to rent after he left for Chicago, then Seattle. Finally sold it a year or so ago and had to take a $75,000 check to closing...

Maxed out on IRA/401K - What now?

My D and SIL are frugal and have relatively high income for their age (early-mid 30s) and are looking for ideas on what to do with savings for retirement beyond what they can put in qualified plans, which they are maxing out. They could figure this out themselves, or course, but since they are both ...

Re: Our John Hancock LTC Premiums Doubled!

We live in Tennessee (where LTC costs are reasonable), are 66 and have JH LTC policies that we bought in 2008. Premiums were $3,300 each, including riders, for 5 year 5% compounding, $180/day. Our premiums are going up 16%. There is a strong history of dementia in my family (including my 63 year old...

Re: Lincoln Choice Plus, i4life variable annuity

Ah, another variable annuity thread! Let the games begin! I have a Lincoln Choice Plus annuity that I bought in 2007 because I retired without any "guaranteed" cash flow. My rider is different from the I4Life rider, and is not available today. If you are buying today you will pay more for ...

Re: Getting promoted, how to ask for retroactive pay?

As someone who spent 30+ years as an HR executive I can tell you that your request should be met with an icy stare from your manager for the various reasons stated above. You would risk that for two months worth of an increase? They'd find a way to get it back come bonus time.

Re: T Rowe Price Target Retirement Funds

My 30s kids asked for some help with rollover IRAs they had. They were looking for something they would not have to spend time worrying about, so I looked at target date funds. Looked to me like the TRP and Vanguard were the best. So, I put 50% with each to get a mix of active and passive management...

Extended Warrenty - Audi

I have a 2009 Audi A4 that is approaching 40,000 miles and is just over 4 years old. The warranty is 5 years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. So, I have until next June since I do not drive more than 10,000 miles a year. My question is what do people think about buying an extended warranty? A...

Re: Kids Inheriting an Annuity

Nikeface, Apparently the Jackson has two key advantages versuses the Mass Mutual. First, there is a death benefit with 5% annual rollup or quarterly market roll up. Second, and most interesting, is the ability to stretch payouts over the life expectancy of the beneficiaries. This is not available wi...

My 63 year old sister has been diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's disease. I have taken over managing her investments and other affairs since I am her only relative (never married, no children or other siblings) and have her POA. In 2004 she had a financial "windfall" and was sold a no...
