Re: 2 Years Out of College, MBA Plan

Also, check out this website: http://www.generationtax.com/mbataxdeduction.html From memory, consulting may be tougher, but about 20-30% of the Americans at my school deducted their tuition. I did, but the value wasn't too much, since my income was low in the middle year and i couldn't shift too mu...

Re: 2 Years Out of College, MBA Plan

You're basically me. I've been battling with the MBA question myself recently, and I'm not 100% sure if it's worth it from a purely financial perspective. Even going from $70K to $140K is not doubling your TAKE HOME, which is what really matters. You aren't paying for business school with salary, y...

Re: Advice for first credit card

My first credit card (in college) was the Citi Forward (https://creditcards.citi.com/credit-cards/citi-forward-for-college-students/). No annual fee with a pretty decent rewards program. You could also try for Chase Freedom too.

Re: 2 Years Out of College, MBA Plan

I think you're over-analyzing it. If you stick with your chosen course at least 3 or 4 years after getting your MBA you'll be able to easily pay off the loan regardless of what you decide to do now. When you have an income that high, you can just save more than the next guy. Getting an extra 1% per...

Re: 2 Years Out of College, MBA Plan

Take this piece of advice - your compensation and ability to save money at this point in your career is a small rounding error of where you potentially could be in 10 years. If you go to a top program, your decision on staying in consulting vs. something else will swamp any optimization of your fin...

Re: Vacation vs Savings Dilemma

Hello, Thanks for the replies. In my industry (consulting), it's very common to get a MBA after 2-3 years to go up to the "next level". Unfortunately, I do not plan to stay with the same company since they are not very competitive in compensation compared to other consulting firms. If I do...

Vacation vs Savings Dilemma

Hello, I've been a long-time Boglehead lurker but recently faced a dilemma which I need some input on. A little background about myself: Age: 23 Income: ~70k+/year (salary+bonus), another raise coming mid-year (been working fresh out of college a year ago) 401k: ~$20k in various low expenses index f...
