Re: Estonian citizen - 401K worth it?

I am no tax expert.. one other thing to consider....

1. If you contribute pre tax to traditional 401k, obviously you are not going to pay taxes NOW on the contribution upto the limit.
2. When you move back to the you country, and if you do need the money, you will be able to withdraw by paying the penalty.

You might end up paying less taxes by withdrawing after moving back and if there are no other income in the US other than the 401k withdrawl.

Thanks

My goal is to minimize the taxes paid this year and get part of my retirement funds into Roth IRA since I cannot predict the tax bracket I will be in when I retire.

I could wait and do the rollover next year as well. Just that I dont have very good funds in my 401k. I have waited for 11 years.. does not hurt to wait another year to roll over.

Roth IRA Conversion

My wife and I have been contributing post tax dollars to an IRA as we are not eligible for Roth IRA. This is it appears that we can convert this to a Roth IRA (We do not know what tax bracket we will be when we retire but would like to hedge) Here is the situation of our retirement account My wife post tax IRA (non deductible IRA) 5% My IRA (non deductible) 5% My wife 401k plan 50% My 401k plan 40% Both the IRA do not have too much capital gains or distributions. My 401k plan is left with my former employer and I can potentially roll this over to an IRA. I had also contributed a little to Roth 401k with the former employer. I currently do not have a 401k plan. If I understand correctly, if I cant to convert both our non deductible IRA to Ro...

I believe HP 401k has a good offering of low cost funds. ( both index and active).

Few things to consider... Thoutg I like low cost index funds, I do have some portions in great low cost active funds.

For example, I think the large value fund is same as Dodge & Cox Stock fund (DODGX). There is also DODFX(International) and DODIX ( your core bond fund).

minor consolidation...

I think your company has a great 401k plan.
I would consider moving the "rollover ira' back into 401k and eliminate an account.

Auto Insurance - Ameriprise

I received my auto insurance renewal from GEICO and got the shock of my life. The rates are exorbitantly high. ( We have a couple of claims in the past three of years). Well.. I have been with Geico for almost 10 years and thought the rates are probably that high. I am a member of Costco and I ran into the Ameriprise auto insurance offered through Costco. I called them to get my auto quote. To my surprise the premium was less than half of what Geico wants me to pay for the renewal. I called back GEICO and asked them why this much difference etc etc. They scared me saying that I might be rejected by Ameriprise a couple of months later etc. Then I called back Ameriprise and they say that they have run some "Motor vehicle Claim report&quo...
