Re: Unlocked phone question with Cricket Wireless

You can switch the SIM, but will have limited functionality. Blackberries generally require Blackberry service (Blackberry data plan or BIS) to use all of their features. On the GSM side, where you are most interested, you could best use your existing phone on TMobile prepaid. TMobile allows a free ...

Re: Just purchased a condo. Insurance question

Also, if you have a mortgage, the mortgage company may require certain minimums. When I refinanced, the new mortgage company made me raise certain aspects of coverage. It added about $20-50 a year to the coverage.

Re: The Great 100 thousand dollar pension question.

One last thing about limited opportunities to buy air time (or to let defined contribution people convert into defined benefit). If many people do either, the funding percentage of the plan will generally go down (at least for a while) as the obligations being added are actuarially larger than the c...

Re: University of British Columbia - Vancouver?

Went there for a year in the 1980's. Beautiful campus right on the ocean. Good transportation links to downtown and elsewhere, so no need for car. Great city with lots to do. Often cheaper to fly into Seattle and take the bus right from the airport. Rigorous competition and a tougher grading system ...

Re: Assisted Living Residence and Care Agreement - Questions

Pennsylvania has some unusual laws, both about how things pass at death and children's responsibility for their aged parents. POD transfers are not allowed in PA, to my understanding. Instead there is a trust situation created, that can have unusual implications. I believe Nolo press, usually a grea...

Re: Light Bulb Durability

I have had poor experiences with Feit's LED and CFL bulbs. They do not stand behind their products. If you want to use them, I would suggest buying at either a Warehouse Club or Menards, and keep the receipts. They will replace or refund them within a year or so after purchase, if you have the recei...

Re: Relative use my address to start business?

Two other risks to being a registered agent for someone else, using your home address: 1) Both your name and the company name will show up in some public databases and on the internet with your home address. 2) You may receive correspondence that mixes your name and the company's. The one I got was ...

Re: Why is lump sum payout for pension so low?

I agree. Also, I don't think they really want you to cash it out, but probably have some political pressure to offer a lump sum. Thus, a lump sum that is a bad deal.

Re: Used Books

I have my Capital One card entered into abebooks.com, so I don't pay the foreign exchange fee. Abebooks itself is Canada based, even if it is charging in US dollars, thus the foreign exchange fee. It is a subsidiary of Amazon now, I believe.

Re: Tips for a One-Way U-Haul Move

Also, if you can control the dates of your move, avoid around the 1st (and to a lesser extent the 15th) of the month. There is a huge increase in demand, generally higher prices, and more chance your truck will not be there.

Re: Ordering tires from Costco

I know I paid for tires with Paypal on costco.com. When they were not the correct ones for my car, the tire guy walked me to the customer service desk and they gave me back about $600 in cash.

Re: Toyota - Supply Vs. Demand

Also, this is the time of year where special ordering is generally most difficult, model year changeover. Production on the 2013s is ending (or ended) and the 2014s are not fully up and running (and may undergo changes in options). It may be easier to order in a couple of months..... Also, on the od...

Re: Laundry Detergent Issues

1) Cheer Dark really works on stopping dark clothes from fading. It is made by the same people that make Tide, and it really is a special attribute of Cheer, especially Cheer Dark. I saw a CBC consumer show where after 25 washes the Cheer Dark black clothes looked much better than Tide or Woolite Da...

Re: Buying car from rental companies such as Enterprise, etc

My friend bought a small Kia from Enterprise and has been very happy overall. Be sure to inspect the body carefully, as there was a small chip on the hood that got worse and had to be repaired. Enterprise paid for the repair about a year after she bought the car.

Re: Nexus 4

There has been some talk that Straight Talk is not even replacing the E71 sims at this moment. This is not verified, and could be problematic, as those phones without the sim card might be a brick. The Net 10 option might be best for you. It has the micro SIM and the same ATT coverage you used before.

Re: House Appraisal Drops Right before Refinancing

In the Detroit Metro market, for condos, I am finding that the zestimates are high, but the lower end of the value range listed in small print, later in the listing, is very accurate for actual sale prices.

Re: Nexus 4

Note that Straight Talk is not selling Bring Your Own Device AT&T network Sim Cards at this time. They are selling a T-mobile standard sim only for BYOD. The Nexus 4 uses a micro-sim, so you will have to buy a SIM cutter to cut the sim down to size, if you get the T-mobile one. There are several...

Re: Advice for mother considering bankruptcy

I would just say that the OP should not take out private student loans to pay off her mother's debt. This debt would be non-dischargeable if the OP suffered a severe setback, such as disability or delays in getting a good-paying job. Changing dischargeable (by the mother) debt to non-dischargeable d...

Re: Out of state notary services

I looked at the form and the statute it references. The form appears to be an affidavit provided for convenience purposes for the vast majority of users. The disclaimer at the bottom seems to indicate as such. There is no reference in the statute that it must be notarized in Hawaii (or by a Hawaiian...
