The best way to bargain with Directv is to call Dish and see what they will offer you. We do this every two years, as soon as our contract expires, and we invariably switch to the other satellite provider.

But would not Vanguard, with its many billions of dollars of fixed Income assets under management, get better deals (e.g. tighter spreads on muni trades) than your financial advisor?

Merging similar index funds at Vanguard would reduce the opportunity of tax loss harvesting in taxable accounts. It would not be a good move for the world's largest mutual fund company.
