Re: Novice investor with questions about opening a Roth IRA

Thanks for your responses, everyone. I'll look over the Fidelity website again tonight to see where the "Automatic Investment" option might be. It *must* be there somewhere! https://www.fidelity.com/cash-management/automatic-investments https://www.fidelity.com/retirement-ira/ira/contribu...

Re: Novice investor with questions about opening a Roth IRA

You can set up recurring trades; I currently push on the 25th of every month. It's called "Automatic Investments".

There are not any fees for purchasing Fidelity mutual funds.

Re: Mom's 401k plan tune-up

The bright side: she has access to Fidelity's Spartan Advantage class funds. My question is, should I rebalance her into a portfolio consisting of: FUSVX - Spartan SP 500 ER 0.07 FSEVX - Spartan Ext. Re: Mom's 401k plan tune-up

I think all of your instincts are spot on.Take full advantage of the Spartan series funds. A 60/40 allocation would be appropriate for someone nearing 50 (possibly a bit conservative). Ignore the Freedom funds. It is better to control your asset allocation yourself (with lower fees) than throw ever...

Mom's 401k plan tune-up

Hi everyone, I recently asked my mother if I could take a look at her 401k plan. She is 48 and plans on working about another 20 years. I apologize for not having all of the information to put in the traditional format. Her elections are: FPURX - Fidelity Puritan Fund - $23,875.32 - 49.01% ER 0.58 <...

Re: iShare ETFs vs Spartan mutual funds at Fidelity ?

From what I understand, Fidelity recently filed to list 10 of its own ETFs. These could be a low ER option when they launch. I wonder what this would mean for the iShares partnership? Edit: Link: http://blogs.barrons.com/focusonfunds/2013/07/29/more-from-fidelitys-etf-registration-filing/

Expense Ratios, ETFs vs. Mutual Fund

Hi all, I was just browsing through my Fidelity iShares offerings, specifically 3 of the Core ETFs that equate to the "3 Fund Portfolio" (ITOT, IXUS, AGG) and had a question about calculating my gross expense ratio. ITOT = .07% IXUS = .16% AGG = .08% Total = .31% In comparison, my mutual f...

Re: Help with Asset Allocation/Fund Choices in 457(b) Plan

I am curious why you are investing at all in a non matched 457(b) when you are not maxing out your (lower cost) Roth IRA. Additionally in the 15% bracket the Roth option is at least as desirable as tax deferred and probably more desirable as it hedges against your tax rate being higher in retiremen...

Re: Help with Asset Allocation/Fun Choices in 457(b) Plan

Some of the 29% in cash should be used to fund your emergency fund and to pay off your student loans (a guaranteed 7.27% return which is almost impossible to find these days with any investments). Okay, I will be splitting some of the cash (roughly $1000) between emergency fund and paying down the ...
