Re: Passport, TSA Pre-Check, and Global Entry

Victoria, in my case I seem to remember they (CBP) took the picture, which is the same process as getting a US visa. Not sure if that would change for US citizens/residents. I qualified to TSA Pre via my Global Entry. Both of them are AMAZING and totally worth it. Yesterday I flew locally and arrive...

Re: Should you discuss your wages with your peers?

Only discuss with coworkers that I value as friends, trying to be constructive (eg what you did to get there, etc).

My best advice though is ask friends in other companies with similar positions. You may discover a new world of money that way :)

Also, for megacorps, check glass door.com

Re: Old ROTH 401k to new plan, better fees than IRA, concern

Did not know that. When I call to make the transfer I will tell them which to where. Their UI does not allow options to see the sources of each investmen., just an aggregate, so I was confused. any other concerns other than the reset of the wait period (which am fine, I've just had it for a year and...

Old ROTH 401k to new plan, better fees than IRA, concerns?

Hello dear bogleheads! I recently switched companies, and my new one will have amazing 401k options starting next week (great timing 8-) ) - all from Vanguard, and better than the funds in my IRA (between 0.03 and 0.12% better for all classes - intl, s&p, extended US and total bond). On my old 4...

Re: Can I contribute to a 401k, a Roth 401k, and a backdoor

Above post is correct, limit is shared between 401k pre tax and Roth.

what you want to request for your company's plan are in-plan conversions of after-tax 401k money. My company just added them they are magnificent (after you've maxed hsa, its, 401k).

Re: Migrating to Windows 8.1

It's free, and is aimed at fixing some of the quirks of Windows 8 without changing it too much. Worth a try unless you're fine with the way everything is on your computer right now (don't fix it if it's not broken).

Re: Being too stingy? [Purchasing a car]

Given that you can afford it (7 figures saving + no debt + lots of years until retirement as long as you do it 60+), go for it. But ask this question first: "why X car?" Once you figure the Why, you'll probably find better/cheaper/more reliable/XYZ variant of a car that still answers the &...

Re: Object oriented programming for a high school junior

I started with Pascal in High School (after self-learning some Flash and very basic ActionScript) and it was OK. Starting with Java is not bad at all! As some people mentioned, the idea is to just grab an easy language (Java is good enough) and "play around". Make simple text-based games, ...

At my age I'm considerably better off but we had completely different lives - they were married, lived in a double-digit inflation economy (this one is hard to imagine...), only dad worked. Re: After maxing 401k/IRA/HSA... what's next?

Howdy, I've been thinking about this one lately since my company is now offering after-tax 401k conversions to roth 401k for up to $20k. I'm maxing 401k, ROTH IRA and HSA. What other things should I look at before going for the "backdoor" ROTH 401k? Any risks in putting too much in ROTH 4...

Re: What age did you reach 100K networth?

Somewhere around 24 on 2012 or late 2011

I was lucky that my parent's gave me an amazing gift - leave college with no debt (had a scholarship to help). Been saving aggressively since I got my first job and enjoyed the market up, but now I hope I can accumulate more before it rises more and more :P

First investments - rebalancing, bonds, house down payment

Hey folks I started saving and investing since I got my first job out of college 2 years and a half ago. I'm following a 3-fund portfolio with Fidelity. I'm very happy with my Nokia Lumia 920 (Windows Phone). It has a different feeling that I like on the OS and I think it's very easy to use for first-timers on the new touchy Smartphone world. It worked for me on IE, but had to click twice (a security prompt showed up and had to choose "Show all non secure content" in the first click). Probably the same issue on chrome.

The total gain was $148, with $74 staying on ROTH. I do not need to pay taxes on that half of it though, correct? TurboTax has a "Reason", but it seemed more optional than not. Since this is my first time using semi-Backdoor ROTH, I wasn't sure what to write. It's limited to 80 characters,...
