Longevity Annuities

Lots of press recently on Longevity Annuities....drawing on payments starting around 80? Seems like a crap shoot of a gamble with odds going to the insurance companies...what do the bogleheads think?

I'm 67 and still employed so I don not need the income from my wife's (70) RMD from Vanguard's Star Fund. I'm thinking of investing the RMD in a Vanguard Lifestyle fund, but which one?

RMD From One Star to Another?

We don't need the money at this time but it's time to start the wife's RMD out of her Vanguard Star fund into......................what? another Star fund or is there a better option with Vanguard? (as long as it fits our AA).

I really wasn't trying to compare the S&P 500 to a bond fund....certainly I know the difference. My point was that not everything is doing well in terms of cash entering the asset class as this equity index.

Just went through the process and took Traveler's for my home, auto and umbrella....had the best combo rate and they have good service...without the hurricane wind deductable I had with my prior company.

Trading Authorization on Wife's Account?

For married Bogleheads who's wives have their own IRA's..... ....both Fidelity and Vanguard have forms that can give full or limited access to your wife's IRA and will give her access to yours.....I guess there's pros and cons for this but after 40 years of marriage we can certainly trust each other...

Just bought HP Chromebook 14 online at Walmart for $349 (includes T-Mobile when you can't get on wifi).....not a bad little machine for the price. Multiple users can use it and it's user friendly once you get the hang of it.

USAA Auto Insurance?

Thinking about switching auto insurance after being with Allstate for many years....premiums seem to be just too high for two cars, $2,600 annually.

On the verge of dropping Verizon home landline (still use them for cells) in favor of Optimum's Triple Play (internet tv and phone)...big monthly savings.

The wife, who just turned 70 has three traditional IRA's which she will have to deal with RMD in the coming year or next.

Is it a good idea to transfer the three IRA funds into one fund to make the RMD easier to deal with?

Immediate Annuity

Just read an article by Ben Stein where he says an immediate annuity is the best to inure income in your retirement years. I also thought that due to high commissions, annuities were problematic.

Venting a Cape?

Been living in a Cape Cod house for many years and while I have individual ac units upstairs in the bedroom, I dislike a/c air and use it only when I have too. Start slowly and start dollar cost averaging into a solid, core index fund (after you prepare your asset allocation). Yes the market's high but with a long time horizon you still should be in equities.
