Re: Can I add to a converted IRA?

I am interested in keeping the number of accounts down and keeping things simple. If I have existing Roth IRAs that were converted three years ago from traditional IRAs, can I add additional funds to the converted Roths or do I need to open a new Roth for funds I would like to add this year? I am r...

Re: Metlife Variable Annuity Qs

Thanks to all who responded. My friend and I met with the Primerica rep who was selling the MetLife Primelite IV Variable Annuity. I was NOT impressed. At times, it seemed that I might know more than she did. THAT is a scary thought. The first five minutes did not go well so she called her boss and ...

Re: Metlife Variable Annuity Qs

I would not try to talk your friend into or out of the variable annuity or becomming a BH. The most I would say is that you don't personally care for variable annuities and that you are a BH. Leave the rest to him. As soon as you talk him into anything, something will happen to lower the value of h...

Re: Metlife Variable Annuity Qs

Thanks to all. Your replies are appreciated. You have confirmed my beliefs. Now, I will try to persuade my friend. I have read the glossy pamphlets and the Prospectus but still didn't have a good command of the info. They certainly do not make it easy! I do have a plan. We are to meet with the agent...

Metlife Variable Annuity Qs

A friend is considering a Metlife PrimElite IV Variable Annuity. The agent trying to sell this thing states that it has a guaranteed 5%, even in years of market downturn. I'm skeptical. I had always thought that Variable Annuities were to be avoided due to excessive fees. An SPIA is more my style bu...

Re: Education advice from Boglehead pilots?

GA (General Aviation) covers a very wide range of flyers, aircraft and operations.

In addition to all previously cited, EAA.org (Experimental Aircraft Association) would be worth your efforts.

Keep the shiny side up.

Calculating My BETA

I am trying to use a Spread Sheet to determine the BETA of my Portfolio. Does Vanguard provide this anywhere? Do any of you do this yourself? Can you describe how you do it? I can get the daily movement of the DJIA, S&P500 and Nasdaq, expressed in %. I can take movement of the portfolio in $ and...

Rate too low. Having to hold 20 years for a half-decent rate is too long.

But isn't the gain tax free if used for education? Not a bad vehicle for the kid's education.

Re: Fidelity Vs. Vanguard - Apples to Apples?

Make sure you ask F to explain Jeff Vinnick and Micron Tech circa 1986. I'm sure that F still has your best interests in mind and will always be truthful with you and all their customers, as they always have, right?
