Re: Starter Home vs. Stay in Condo?

Thanks for your reply. I'd rather not say which city I'm in if that's ok. In terms of considering our financial situation together, we are thinking that within the next year or two she will become Mrs. DoubleDraw so we are making this decision together though the house may be purchased under my nam...

Re: Starter Home vs. Stay in Condo?

OP which city are you in? I hate to say it as it may not sound good in your position but things cannot be taken for granted and I would definitely recommend considering only your financial situation for the new house. I think you bring more to the table anyways. I would recommend doing it. I live in...

Re: 401k MAX or Spousal Roth

I am in utah but it may not be the state I live forever since I am fairly young age and career wise Utah have a very good 529 plan that allows to take 5% of contribution as a state tax break. However the flexibility of Roth and the fact that we want to pay ourselves first has kind of steered me away...

Re: 401k MAX or Spousal Roth

thanks guys for the ideas. This discussion helps i think I will do this. I will move the 5K for 2012 from savings for 2012 Roth contribution Between a vanguard taxable and an open account at scottrade that I can close, I can come up with 1.5K for 2013 contribution, which leaves with 4K to deal with....

Re: 401k MAX or Spousal Roth

I am in the 25% tax bracket. You are right about the timing on the Roth and yes I am aware of that. In fact I am planning to open Roth for her now and contribute 5K (2012 max) from savings and over next two month . I have to cut some inflow to 401K if I want to contribute to Roth after that.

Bogleheads Need your advice again. I have maxed out at 401K for 2013. I became aware of the spousal IRA recently and want to get your advice regarding it. Re: Savings for a young family

We have a rather small condo that we hope to sell in 3 years and use the house payment savings as downpayment to buy a house. I am assuming that we wont have any gains from the condo sale. we owe a bit less than the home value (in other words less equity due to value drop)
