What if I cash in my Whole Life insurance?

I have had a whole life insurance policy for over 20 years now, only 100K. I had instructed the dividends to pay for the monthly premiums, but now I still have to contribute. I have plenty of term life for myself and family. My question is if were to take the cash value of the policy and close out, ...

Lehman US Treasury Index

Articles discussing Swensen's portfolio from his book sometimes mention long-term bonds and sometimes short-term. Both are incorrect. To add to the confusion, other articles that speak of a barbell of both short and long-term bonds. Swensen was emailed directly and his answer was that you should mat...

Re: I am back - if anyone cares

I am aware of the tilt you mention.
VEU vs VXUS the expense ratio was a little better with VEU, had more Canada, but now that I compare the two, VXUS holds more stocks by far, so may be a better choice. Otherwise they both seemed similar and that is what Swenson has stayed with all these years.

Re: I am back - if anyone cares

YDNAL

I do own VUSUX not VUSTX, so sorry about the wrong ticker symbol. Not quite there yet for VIPSX, but not too far away

Retiredjg

You are right about the bond allocation. This would be better

VIT = 30%
VIPSX = 10%
VUSUX = 20%
VNQ =10%
VWO = 10%
VEU = 15%
VBR = 5%

Re: I am back - if anyone cares

Thank you all once again for the advice--I intend on holding steady and have chosen this portfolio

VTI = 40%
VEU= 15%
VWO = 5%
VNQ = 10%
VIPSX= 10%
VUSTX=10%
VBR= 10% Expense Ratio = .17

This basically follows D. Swenson's portfolio with a small cap value tilt

I like the idea of tilting toward REIT as well as SCV.

Maybe a dumb question [on expense ratios]?

My wife and I each have a separate account at Vanguard, yet me total all our money together for the AA. If we each own the same fund, say VTI, does that mean that the expense ratio for this ETF is double? In other words, are we paying twince as much to manage the same fund?
Thanks as always
