I bought a hybrid and have been very happy with it. WIll pay for itself in appx 5 yrs ...also got a tax credit last yr.

One caveat....if you live in a cold climate...not recommended.

I had a solar heating system installed for my pool....cost $3k total....heat is free....I get 10 degrees warmer than the Gulf of Mexico on average....I live in SW FL and can swim year round.....but I prefer it 10 months of the year.

No, all the hybrid parts incl battery are under warranty for 10 yrs or 100k miles.......these batteries have proven to be very reliable.

I withdraw a flat 4% (not adjusting for inflation) each Jan. The amount varies but I do not depend exclusively on this money anyway and usually funnel some of this back to the investment pool at the end of each year. I also have a "reward system" for myself....If my portfolio beats 4% plus...

I've owned 3 and loved them all. Really depends on whether you and family will use it and for how long ..I live in S FL and swim easily 10 months of the yr. Pool was a MUST for us. Good luck, I sold a house in Mississippi with a pool and it was a drawback for buyers......the eventual buyer filled it...

In my humble opinion, financially its an obvious loser.

I believe the Prius to be more of an ecological/political statement than an actual wise purchase due to gas savings. Do the math on buying a Corolla vs a Prius; compare initial cost, gas savings and long term expense.

My advice is also to simplify......ditch it.

Any mechanical device (especially an auto) is in a constant state of decomposition and will cost you money even if it (possibly especially if) it just sits in the driveway.
